Empire Magazine's coverage of The Acolyte continues with a new look at one of the series' most anticipated characters. In the recent trailer, Carrie-Anne Moss was showcased in a fight with Amandla Stenberg's Mae. Now, the inspiration behind Moss' character has been revealed (or confirmed, depending on who you ask).

Speaking to Empire, showrunner Leslye Headland says that her Master Indara is 'very much inspired' by Trinity, Moss' iconic role from The Matrix franchise. Likening it to 'Trinity with a lightsaber,' she added:

[IMG] (L-R): Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Mae (Amandla Stenberg) in Lucasfilm's THE ACOLYTE, exclusively on Disney+. ©2024 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved.

Is Force-fu a brand new type of fighting style in a galaxy far, far away? Perhaps. If anything, it seems similar in a spiritual sense to Moss' Matrix co-star, Keanu Reeves, and the 'gun-fu' style established in the John Wick franchise. As was the case with Reeves, Moss was very involved in the day-to-day action. She explained what it was like training and preparing to take on the role of a Jedi Master.

Moss also compared Headland's vision for The Acolyte as similar to Christopher Nolan and the Wachowski's respective visions for Memento and The Matrix. Whether that proves to be prophetic or not, we will have to wait and see. The Acolyte is less than two months away, with its two-episode premiere being set for June 4 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET / June 5 at 2am BST. The first two episodes will be available that day, with the rest coming out on a weekly basis thereafter.

Keep it here at Star Wars News Net for more coverage of The Acolyte as we get closer. With Empire, Headland previously discussed the meaning behind the show's title and dove deeper into the show's detective angle. You can find that here.

LOL. Not a hard one to figure out, right? :)

Headland's comment is like the director of John Wick saying the title character was 'very much inspired' by Neo, Keanu Reeves's iconic role in The Matrix.
