Unfortunately, the Jedi Order that we know and love was corrupt and clouded by the shroud of the dark side. Not only was Darth Sidious having his play at it, but it was also built on top of an ancient Sith shrine which remained active, unbeknowst to the Jedi. What I'm getting at is, what if Obi-Wan saw through that as others did. What if Luke(luke), Yoda(yoda 2), Leia (rumors she uses the force in Episode 8)(leia), Obi-Wan(obi-wan 4), Qui-Gon, Quinlan Vos, Ahsoka(ahsoka), and even Anakin(anakin) all believed certain aspects of the Jedis views were twisted. I could definitely see Obi doing the dirty with a lady and settling down to an extent on Tatooine. He was clearly taking care of the Duchess in a proper manner. ;)

Unfortunately, that is what it is. You can't just go back and cross that part out.

Comparing every jedi out there who might have had a few Tropical beverages and one crazy night is still ignoring Obi-Wan. Just because other Jedi may have done it doesn't mean Obi-Wan was the kind of person to do it.

"Rey's grandfather was a Jedi called Obi Wan Kenobi."

    "Oh okay, cool."

    Retcon? What does it retcon?

What does it add to the story? A connection between Rey and arguably the main character from the prequels. It would keep the family theme going through the saga.

It's more likely Darth Vader fathered more children with other women than this bizarre theory Obi-Wan had kids and abandoned them in the Galaxy.

Why Rey has to come from a force lineage ? Did Yoda parents were force sensitive ? Did Obi Wan parents were force sensitive ?

Where does that rule come from ?

Well, she dosent have to be related to anyone important obviously. But imo it would be better to the story if she would be. I mean if she's really a noone like she said in the trailer, than the ST is really just a copy-paste of the OT (and even the PT). I mean another super talented random protagonist from a desert planet? Thats really one in a million...

This is the point of a hero isn't it ? One in a million ?

And that's the point to make a story about her.

Leia is not a jedi. She's a force user but not commited to an order. She can have kids, it breaks nothing.

Kenobi had a thing with Satine and he stated that if he had known he had left the order, not changing the rules. And Satine died after with no child killed by Maul.

er...Luke wasn't super random as it turned out. he was the son of Anakin/Vader.

Rey being the random child of non-FS parents actually would be new/different.

It is my believe to use the FORCE you must be of a force child, from one or two parents that where force users or a someone else from the family grandparents or beyond. In the case of Anakin/Vader being born of the force, I believe the father was a force user because Shumi said something about he came in the night to her? if I recall.

Rey has to have FORCE family lineage down the line, for her to be that strong in the FORCE. For Rey to learn so quickly = strong force users in her family, question then has to be answered WHO ARE THEY?

    Rey is a SKYWALKER.

Rey's father has powerful force = Luke his father has powerful force = his father Anakin/Vader = his father ?

Luke's word's "My family is strong with the force my mother has it, my father has it, and you have that power too..". And from In TFA teaser "My family is strong with the force and you too have that power!" (If I recall correct) This statement was pointed towards Rey.

Again Kennedy says the SAGA meaning the episodes are about the SKYWALKERS meaning about Anakin-Padme in PT, and OT Luke-Leia, and the ST Ben-Rey..

Rey father is Luke and mother is a Kenobi.

This is how Rey is now the next most powerful jedi...

Rey has two sets of grandparents of the FORCE = Obi-wan and Anakin
Rey has two sets of parents of the FORCE = Luke and Obi-wan's granddaughter

This is the case and how she is a Kenobi.

Next is yes to address the fact how Obi-wan had a granddaughter. Simple the time frame of that 19 year cap, what did he do other then look after Luke? We know he wasn't looking after him all the time when Luke was still a baby the aunt and uncle looked after him. So Obi-wan went on some missions? I hope this is addressed in a Obi-wan standalone movie.

Forrest Gump terminology "That's all I got to say about that"

Except that George Lucas has said there is no such concept in Star Wars. When asked directly he answered "no, everyone can learn to use the force, it's a universal thing" (I'm paraphrasing and my Google foo failed to track down the interview).

Its an interesting idea - that Rey is this nexus of force-rich bloodlines - but unless the Story Group is changing Lucas' premise (which they might) then there is no law dictating that this must be the case.

My own reason for believing Rey is related to Obi-Wan Kenobi comes purely from internal story logics in TFA. She might end up with a completely different pedigree, but the clues strewn about in TFA makes a strong argument for her being a Kenobi.

Luke's speech in the trailer (which might not be relevant) Points to Ben Solo, I feel, not some discarded daughter that people seem not to remember anymore. IMHO of course.

Most Jedi did indeed come from parents who weren't force sensitive as far as we can tell. All I know for sure about Rey at this point is that she needs to have more to her background than just being a nobody who happened to be strong with the force. The reason for that is simple, Rey performs various actions in the film that are far to amazing for someone who doesn't have special training, or at the very least, special lineage. Flying the Falcon the way she does(despite never having flown a ship before), performing a Jedi Mindtrick(without training) and defeating Kylo Ren(still amazing even with Kylo's grievous Bowcaster wound).

I for one, think that there are some repressed memories at play with Rey. She even seems surprised herself at the things she can do in the film. Also of note is Kylo's reaction to the news that a girl was involved in BB-8's escape. Even more interesting is the fact that in the novelization of TFA, when Rey grabs the light saber, Kylo thinks to himself "It is you!" Clearly there is more to Rey than simply being a nobody who is powerful in the force. Thank god for that too, otherwise it would just be bad writing and all of the "Rey is a Mary Sue" arguments would actually be valid.

Does that mean that Rey is definitely a Skywalker or a Kenobi(or possibly both)? Of course not, there are still other possibilities. However, her having special lineage is definitely more plausible and believable than her being a nobody(which is highly unlikely based on what has appeared in canon sources so far). Her having special lineage also lines up with the other trilogies as well. Anakin's conception was from the Force itself, explaining his amazing affinity for the Force. Luke was of course the son of Anakin Skywalker. In each case we have characters who come from humble beginnings, but also have important lineage as well. Rey already has the humble beginnings part down pat, I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that she has important parents as well(at least one of whom are Force sensitive).

I for one am fine with her being a Kenobi, so long as the writing is there to back it up.

Nobody said he abandoned any kids, perhaps he wasn't even aware they existed.

i didn't bother reading your theory, although i'm sure it's well thought out. here's the thing- by making rey related to obi-wan, it ruins the vision that george lucas had of obi-wan. his story (with the exception of perhaps an anthology film or a rebels cameo) has been told. they won't go and alter storylines that took place in either the OT or the PT, such as making new characters related to old ones whose stories have been told (such as palpatine, obi-wan, qui-gonn,etc.) not only that, but lucasfilm's approach to this new trilogy is clearly geared towards introducing an entirely new fanbase to star wars.. this is evident in the fact that the force awakens was able to stand on its own as a film, as opposed to being a blind continuation of return of the jedi. with that in mind, fans shouldn't have to rely on seeing the other films to understand the new ones (such as introducing obi-wan as a father/grandfather of a new character)

Well, considering Disney might going make an Obi-wan movie (or maybe even multiple), Rey Kenobi would definitely boost the interest.

This argument about fans not having to rely on seeing other films to understand this one is silly in this case. We hear both Yoda and Obi-Wan in TFA, people who haven't seen the other movies aren't going to get that reference, but it won't confuse them or ruin their experience either. If Obi-Wan(or any other Jedi for that matter) turn out to be Rey's grandfather, all that will be needed for explanation is the fact that she has a powerful Jedi in her lineage, boom, easy. When people first watched ANH back in the day, all we knew was that Luke had a father who was a Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker, no further explanation or viewing of the Prequels was needed. There's no reason that it should be any different for Rey, regardless of her parentage, to imply otherwise is to treat both the audience and the writers as stupid.

you're comparing apples and oranges now- comparing the situation of ANH to TFA makes zero sense. at the time of ANH, there were no other star wars films.. of course they can mention luke's father in passing, because there was no other material that audiences had engaged with. there have been 6 star wars films before TFA, not to mention countless canon novels, comics, t.v. shows, etc. etc. there's no way they would be able to just mention her lineage in passing, ESPECIALLY if it happens to be kenobi, palpatine, etc. it's convoluted enough thinking that obi-wan's story would be ret-conned by shoving two generations of mysterious Kenobis that nobody knows of... so, he met a women and had kids and then they ALSO had kids...? how can all of that be explained? this entire storyline of a kenobi family that nobody knows about can't just be overlooked and mentioned in passing. that would be an extremely poor move on lucasfilm's part, which is why there's no way they would even bother going that route.

I facepalm every time I see someone say: "They're making these movies for a new audience, its pointless relating her to Obi Wan"

Why would they bother making Kylo related to Anakin then? Why use Obi Wan and Yoda's voices in the flashback? Why bring back Luke? Why bring back R2 and Threepio? Chewbacca? Why give Han so much screen time? Why are the first two words in the opening crawl LUKE SKYWALKER if they're so intent on making the audience focus only on new characters?

Seriously, the stuff people say to throw others off of perfectly logical theories..

    EPISODE 7 guys.

This is supposed to be a continuation of the story going back as far as The Phantom Menace, and always will be. They are relating the new stories to the old while making them accessible for brand new fans - doesn't have to be one or the other; things aren't so black and white.

My money's on Rey being a Kenobi if she's related to anyone.

JJ: "Rey's parents are not in The Force Awakens" so Leia, Han and Luke are out! Bye bye! :D

Seriously, she's more likely to be related to Lando than Luke.

I wonder if that is the case because Rey has some kind of amnesia(most probably a force-induced one). She could be already trained and not know it,which would explain the extraordinary feats in question. It just came natural to her.

Probably slightly far-fetched but still possible.

It doesn't make sense for Obi Wan to have children. Both from a character and Jedi Order standpoint. Also, wouldn't have made sense for Obi Wan or Yoda to train any children he had?

The TFA filmmakers eliminated Luke's hand flying through space because new Star Wars fans wouldn't understand the reference.

Obi Wan didn't have kids. He was a Jedi. Jedi not named Anakin do not have children.
