Phase 2 of the High Republic publishing initiative is still wrapping up, but Lucasfilm is already looking ahead to this fall's launch of Phase 3. Fans can get excited for the continuation of the Jedi's struggle against the Nihil after the band of marauders brought an age of darkness across the galaxy when it should be at its brightest.

Before we get to that, if you didn't hear, The Acolyte has claimed its first publishing character for live-action; Vernestra Rwoh is coming to the silver screen and will be played by Rebecca Henderson. The news came from Leslye Headland herself, who surprised the panel at the very end. Vernestra will no doubt be a centerpiece once again as Phase 3, subtitled Trials of the Jedi, kicks off this fall.

Diving back into that publishing news, we begin with more information about September's young adult anthology, Tales of Light and Life. Every High Republic author will have a tale across all phases of storytelling.

Some highlights from this opening bit include the news that Doctor Aphra writer Alyssa Wong will be joining the High Republic team! Readers of that comic shouldn't be surprised with all of the easter eggs they have been laying throughout their run on the series. Wong will make their debut in Star Wars: Tales of Light of Life with the short story Rogue Element. That story can only be found in the Barnes & Noble edition of the book.

Here is a basic breakdown of what each story is about (h/t Friends of the Force):

    • The Queen's Bloom by Zoraida Córdova -- Axel Greylark and his mother
    • A Closed Fist Has No Claws by Tessa Gratton -- Marda Ro-focused (no indication of timeline)
    • Shield of the Jedi by George Mann -- Rooper's Jedi trials with her master Silandra Sho
    • The Lonely Traveler is Home Daniel José Older -- Ram and Zeen in the middle of Phase 1
    • After the Fall by Claudia Gray -- the events one week after The Fallen Star
    • The Force Provides by Justina Ireland -- Vernestra Rwoh after the fall
    • All Jedi Walk Their Own Path by Charles Soule -- two-parter with Belle Zettifar -- 1) Loden Greatstorm-centered 2) The search for Burryaga
    • The Call of Coruscant by Lydia Kang -- Keeve Trennis-focused
    • Rogue Element by Alyssa Wong -- follows Crash after Midnight Horizon

More information about all of the reveals from the High Republic panel can be found at StarWars.com. Now for the main event: Phase 3 -- Trials of the Jedi was first teased with this poster:

The story will pick up about one year after the fall of Starlight Beacon with George Mann's Eye of Darkness, due on November 14. It is described as a victory lap of sorts for the Nihil leader, Marchion Ro, as the Jedi pick up the pieces of their defeat.

Lucasfilm publishing director Michael Siglain noted that Phase 3 releases will be more spread out to allow for readers, new and old, to catch up. Eye of Darkness will be followed by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong's middle-grade novel Escape from Valo on January 30, 2024. The first wave of novels will conclude with another young adult novel from the duo of Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton; Defy the Storm will be released on March 12, 2024.

Here is the list of every other release coming from Phase 3 and their release window:

    • Temptation of the Force by Tessa Gratton -- Adult novel in summer 2024
    • Beware the Nameless by Zoraida Córdova -- Middle-grade novel in summer 2024
    • Tears of the Nameless by George Mann -- Young adult novel in fall 2024
    • Into the Light by Claudia Gray -- Young adult novel in spring 2025
    • A Valiant Vow by Justina Ireland -- Middle-grade novel in spring 2025
    • Trials of the Jedi by Charles Soule -- Adult novel in spring 2025

Cavan Scott and Daniel José Older will return with their flagship The High Republic and The High Republic Adventures comic series, respectively. Both are currently set to relaunch in December 2023. There was no word on what other comics or manga could be coming from Phase 3.

Meanwhile, Lydia Kang is taking over short story duties in the pages of Star Wars Insider. This new set will be titled Chronicles from the Occlusion Zone and will begin in October. The Occlusion Zone was identified as Nihil territory in Charles Soule's Eye of the Storm.

That is everything that was formally revealed from Phase 3 at the High Republic panel. But Phase 2 is still wrapping up, and the Night of Sorrow is here. Check out this poster as we wrap up:
