Anybody else hyped about the start of The Last of Us show tonight?

Starring Pedro Pascal (our very own Mando) and Bella Ramsey (young Lady Mormont from GOT), this show is likely to become HBO's new breakout series.

If you thought The Walking Dead was awesome back in its heyday....and if you are not familiar with the video game........hold on to your seat and "buckle up" because, trust me, this show is going to knock your socks off!

Never ever compare TWD with TLOU. The only similarity is it's set in the apocalypse. That's pretty much it.

But boy, I'm really excited about this show. I probably played the first game about a dozen times. The second game was also quite nice.

Can't wait to share this story with people who have never played this amazing game!

    Spoiler free First Episode Review:

It's everything I thought it would be. Very well done! The acting, the production values, the cinematography, and the soundtrack were all excellent. Anyone who tuned in thinking they might get another The Walking Dead quickly learned this show is a whole different deal.

I don't know anything about this game, but man, Joel's daughter was fantastic and I love watching Anna Torv in anything. The 1st episode was intense.

Kind of impossible to avoid The Walking Dead comparisons. I enjoyed the pilot for The Walking Dead more than TLOU. I really loved the game, but part of what made it so great was the game itself. The story is basically The Road with zombies so it's well covered territory. I'm kind of over the "guess the shocking death" version of storytelling. I liked Pedro and Bella in Thrones, but both seem like a miss for this series. Looks like I'm in the minority though. There is a huge appetite for hopeless dystopian content at the moment. I am hopeful they have an endgame in mind with this series though. That's what ultimately killed TWD.

Also, I've heard the first episode is one of the weakest so that's good news.

I was a big fan of the TWD comics before the TV series aired -- and loved the pilot. But TLOU has better overall casting.
Yep, I think you're squarely in the minority on that opinion. :)
Given its based on the games, I'd say that's a safe bet.
What killed the series for most TWD fans was when Negan killed Glenn. The show plummeted in the ratings after that unforced error.

I quit that series long before that... it was pretty obvious they were just gonna draw it out forever with no legitimate end in mind after the 3rd season. The drop in quality from season 1 to season 3 was pretty incredible.

That intro to episode 2 was powerful. Both Indonesian actors were superb. When the scientist said "Bomb", I got chills. When she asked to be taken home to spend time with her family, I teared up. The horror on the officer's face at the realization that there is nothing they can do was so powerful. I loved that Indonesian authorities were shown as competent, they did everything right, but that was not enough. I wonder if they'll begin each episode this way, with a snippet from the past.

When Tess said : "You try climbing 10 f*cking floor with our knees, se how ya feel" - I felt that in my knees, lol.

Tess, you went out like the boss. You will be missed. RIP. (This was an obvious outcome, even for a non-player like me.)

Bella Ramsey is excellent as Elli, she has range, showing everything from the cheek of a teenager to sassy humor, all encompassing fear, anger, and everything in between. Pedro Pascal is suitably subtle as reticent Joel and I really loved Anna Torv n this episode, showing how world weary and yet hopeful Tess was.

You can see the dollars on the screen, the sets are fantastic.

I am ready for Joel- Elli bonding trip. :D

One of the youtube pundits I follow, said scaling those fallen skyscrapers would blow the shows budget, so he understands why they didn't do it in the live action show, which was one of the highlights of the game.

What they did in episode 2 in the museum was really good, just as good as the game. The clickers are just as frightening as the game, well designed. As someone who actually played the game. This adaptation is spot on.

HBO has another hit on their hands, for faithfully following the game, and also adding things that support the game's lore.

For the limited time they were in the episode, the performances of both the doctor and the general were award-worthy. The look on the general's face when he hears the doctor grave 'solution' was chill-enducing. When you examine some of the best TV shows of all time, it's often the 'little' set-up scenes like this one that's the difference between a good and a great story.
I'm a non-player too but I've heard that in the game our heroes were confronted by the military instead of the 'zombies.' It's hard for me to imagine that Tess's death could have been made more emotionally powerful than it was in this HBO version.

I've heard film pundits who have played the game say that the game is designed like a film, so the adaptation would not be too difficult, and I agree the game feels like you are part of a horror film.

I don't play allot of video games because they start piling up like books. I have video games that I haven't played yet or finished so I play my favorite every year which is Call of Duty.

With that said, a fellow gamer told me I must play the Last of Us because it is the greatest video game ever made. When I finally got around to playing it, video game graphics had advanced, so I was a bit underwhelmed, but as I played the game the story engrossed me thoroughly.

Killing the Clickers was very hard to do, and I really felt like I was in a horror film. Lights off in the living room, Playstation 4 console, surround sound head phones, 60 inch flat screen, I was transported to a frightening post apocalyptic world.

I wouldn't call it the greatest video ever, but i would recommend it to any avid gamer. I'd say Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, or Batman Arkham city would be my top 3 video games ever created, for me that is.

    Initial Reaction:

Wow, In my estimation, Episode 3 took the show to a whole new level. I was blown away by the script and by the acting performances. This show is hitting on all cylnders! HBO has hit another home run with this show.

I couldn't watch Bill and not have this come to mind everytime he was on screen.

Episode 3 deviated quite a lot from the game, but it was a good call to do so.

This episode felt the most like TLOU because it showed what TLOU is really about- being human.

The world ends, but you don't give up.

"If you are lost in the darkness, look for the light."
Bill was lost in the dark and found the light by the help of Frank. Bill learned this value message and gave it onto Joel.

Ok. This is a LOT.... of hype from so many respected sources. I've got to check this show out....after I'm done with House of Cards.
