    Just an observation based on the character placement and content of the poster.

    Both...what do you mean? Everyone there are main characters that are making up the story. All just as important as the other.

    In the context of lead "heros" it's a fair shout for Rey. I am hoping for Kylo Ren to steal the show as the central character of the whole trilogy.

    I find it funny that a Staff member here, who is constantly putting Rey above Finn and is very vocal in that fact, is the one that shut down the Finn thread. I can't understand people who haven't seen the film not even entertaining the fact that it could be a co-lead movie, it's not like anyone's name is in the title.

    Just looking at the movie poster released today, it is interesting that Finn is on one side with a blue light sabre, Kylo is on the other side with a red light sabre, and Rey is in the middle without a light sabre. To me, this suggests the following:

    1. Finn could be force-sensitive and it is possible that he will become a Jedi.

    2. Rey could be playing the critical role in deciding the outcome of the trilogy. IMO, the poster strongly suggests that she is the one who has to make a critical choice. If she sides with the Knights of Ren and the First Order, the bad guys will win, but if she sides with the Jedi and the Resistance, the good guys will win.

    Knowing that you are referring to me without stating that fact, let me chine in here @kingstonbishop;

    I NEVER meant that Rey was going to be the "outstanding, all seen, and overshadowing" lead. WHAT I've always meant to say is that this story is going to be primarily about her bloodline (as I've said) and she will be the Skywalker. I've ALSO said that Finn and Poe are going to complete the "Three musketeers" of the new trilogy...so yes, co-leads, but this story is ultimately going to be about the bloodline and the people on the journey to her destiny. Clearer??

    The aggregate has always pointed to Rey as the main hero in a movie with multiple leads. Read this ending of the movie here.

    You see this is part of the problem. Once again you relegate everyone, including Finn, to ultimately being the landmarks Rey comes across on her journey to her destiny. You didn't even consider the possibility that Finn has his own journey, his own destiny. And you make all your claims as if they are fact, as if you know how it is all going to go down. All I wrote you apparently brushed off.

    Secondly for a moderator must say you don't appear to be exactly keeping the peace and showing any objectivity. Instead you appear to get drawn into silly debates with posters and then add to the fire with your own sarcastic rebuttals. How does that help?

    Last of all, yeah, if it is true that you did close the Finn thread that is a bit disconcerting considering you do come across as one of those who is invested in the storyline being all about Rey. So let me get this straight. The Finn thread was repeatedly visited by folks whose goal appeared to be to dismiss claims of storylines that would put Finn above Rey in their minds. This led to most of the strife on that thread which admittedly had the effect of causing some Finn fans, in defense, to go overboard. So your solution was to close the Finn thread after getting into your own disagreements with some of those Finn fans? Convenient. can we not have a repeat of that in THIS thread?
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 18, 2015, Original Post Date: Oct 18, 2015 ---
    And THIS dude who took personal shots at Boyega in that Finn thread is allowed to keep trolling? Looks like a pattern.

    Pretty much seals the deal.

    Rey = Luke
    Finn = Han

    Rey is the Luke Skywalker of this trilogy, period. Doesn't mean that Finn's role is diminished; being the "Harrison Ford" of a Star Wars trilogy is not a small thing.

    Besides, I think it's a safe bet that there'll eventually be a love triangle (between Finn and Rey and...possibly Poe or some other third part who will be introduced in Ep 8)

    Yeah I'm officially over engaging these types of people, It's starting to take away my excitement for Rey when, ever since Daisy was cast I've been in love with her, if people NEED Rey to be more important than Finn I'm done trying to understand why they can't see them as equals.

    Since we don't have a Finn thread I just gotta say, I love his intensity in his clip with Poe, I feel like his character is going to be really complex. John said he would be charismatic and funny, combined with the footage we've seen, Finn's turning out to be a great character.

    Ok, let's see;

    As far as what you wrote, I don't recall what that was, but it apparently didn't change my focus as much as my statements don't change yours...that's evident by your post here. As far as Finns "journey and destiny", that much is going to be (also) evident as he's coming to us as a deserter from the FO and will go on this great journey as much as Han or Obi-wan did in the previous trilogy(s). You seem to think that "I've never considered Finn's journey", but I've never debated his journey....nor Poe's....nor any of the OT characters' journeys...I've only stated that I think Rey will be the Skywalker...which is what this story is ultimately about.

    Are you referring to the fact that I've never discussed Finns "journey" (again), or that I've apparently never discussed what YOU specifically want to talk about? This "silly debate" is not going to be another one. I do my VERY BEST to avoid sarcasm when I touch a keyboard, and if you've ever felt like I conveyed sarcasm...then you personally have my apologies if you've been offended. I'm about as sarcastic as they come, but do my very best to turn that filter on when I'm here.

    IT IS true that I locked that thread, and it will be open again soon. IF you feel inclined to look back through that thread, you'll find that my position was trying to smooth debate about the fact that many (including myself) thought that Rey would be the recipient of the Skywalker torch, and was getting many responses that were somewhat combative based on the fact that the entire thing was turning into a race conversation, and I was trying to keep that from happening.

    The entire staff visited that thread and concluded that the temporary lock was necessary...including @Viral Hide. Now, do you feel better trying to bring that strife here and now...in all honesty? If you wanted to debate this with me, I'm VERY open to a PM's, instead of having to respond to a single members irritation in an open thread that ultimately derails it because you want to complain.

    Furthermore (to address your last statement that didn't appear in the quotes), I apparently didn't see the shots takes at Boyega...perhaps I didn't go back that far, my mistake. but this pattern that you speak of...care to elaborate in a PM instead of derailing this thread also...perhaps??

    But why is this discussion in the Finn thread? If people who like Finn want to discuss this possibility why can't they do so without being bombarded with, he can't be this and can't be that, when they clearly have a bias of Rey > Finn. Challenging other's opinions is one thing, but when you have a point to prove against something else it comes off as hostile and not as a discussion where you're trying to understand each others points but you're wrong, here's why.

    And why here after what happened in the Finn thread??? I've never disliked Finn, I only EVER said that Rey was going to be the Skywalker that received the torch, and that (IMHO) it wasn't going to be Finn...period. There were those that were asking "Why can't Finn be the lead...because he's black??" which is profoundly ridiculous and I repeatedly tried to diffuse that line of thinking.....ok not here. PM

    Carry on, everyone! :)

    Let me get this straight....the main hero of the film carries staff and not a lightsaber?

    You got it straight. This is like Episode I. And in Episode IV, Luke didn't fight any person with a Lightsaber. Kenobi did. Kenobi was the primary lightsaber guy in Episode I and IV.

    I am confused.

    I assumed or thought that the person, man, woman or robot who has the good lightsaber on the poster is he hero of the film?

    Forget placement, or who is in the left, middle or bottom. If there is one person who has the good lightsaber, then surely he must be the one who is the main hero?

    I'm confused...someone help me...

    But Kenobi was the old sage though.....so he couldn't have been the main hero when you look at his in comparison to Hamill.

    If we saw Luke with a saber in this film, then yeah, he would be the Kenobi.

    -Luke had a lightsaber in the ANH poster; he never used it except for a brief training scene.
    -Nobody had a lightsaber on the ESB poster.
    -If Anakin was the hero of ATOC, then he didn't have one on that poster either.

    short version: doesn't really matter

    First, above all, I sincerely hope beyond hope that there is NOT a 'love triangle'. Just...no. Bleh.

    That said...I think Rey is the main hero in that she's a Skywalker, etc.

    But I don't think that Finn=Han. I think his character arc is going to be much, much, MUCH more integral to the overall story--in this movie and the next two--than Han's was. As the OP said, "1a, 1b"...something very, very different than anything we've seen before.

    And if we're basing this on poster art, that's kind of silly. First, Han wasn't nearly as prominent as Finn is in the original New Hope posters. I don't Lucas fully realized how popular Han would be, and I think his role grew afterward. Yes, in this poster, Rey is the center, but Kylo is bigger and Finn is very prominent as well (if we're comparing to New Hope poster art). Also, who was featured in Empire's poster? Han and Leia, and though Luke was in front of them, they were the focus, though their journey wasn't the heart of the film. So...

    So, basically, I sincerely believe that it's not a good idea to use the previous two trilogies as models for this one. I don't think there's going to be a 'luke' and a 'han' and a 'leia' etc. I think they're breaking some molds in TFA (given many of the things the OP outlined at the start of this tread), and that Finn will have an important character journey that impacts the story over the course of the three movies in a much more meaningful way than Han's story did.

    Edited to add: I can say something similar about Luke. While I think he plays a similar role to Yoda and Obi Wan in that he's the last Jedi, etc., I think his character journey will be much much MUCH more important to the story than either Yoda or Obi Wan's was. Both Yoda and Obi Wan were there to teach and instruct. While I think Luke will eventually teach, etc., I don't think his role is quite that simple. His character will most likely have much more of an emotional journey than either Yoda or Obi Wan's character did...and that journey will be something that helps drive episode VIII (if not IX as well).

    As much as TFA seems to be mirroring elements of ANH, I don't think it's wise to use that movie or any that came before as a model for what we'll see character wise in this one.
