    Legends of Luke Skywalker.jpg

I was looking at the summary of this book on Amazon, which reads as follows:

A collection of myths and tall-tales about the legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker, written by Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy award-winning author Ken Liu.

So if this book is a bunch of myths and tall-tales, then we cannot assume anything in it actually happened (in this fictional universe anyways). Instead it only serves to provide insight as to people's view of Luke. Like any myths Rey might have heard about him while on Jakku.

While such a book may prove to be a good read, I find it frustrating because I really want to know what the hell Luke has been doing between ROTJ and TFA . And if I read a story that might have some level of truth to it, but I don't know to what degree, then it wanes my interest significantly. I might as well just read a "Legends" book!

I share some of your frustration, but I believe we won't get anything more substantial about Luke until TLJ is out.

    But, don't get completely discouraged:

"There is always some truth in legends." - Ahsoka Tano

"Even when false, legends can be most informative." - Grand Admiral Thrawn

Very wise. I must have been fooling myself to think we'd get anything substantial on Luke pre-TLJ. I need to keep working on patience!

The way I think this will be treated - all the events described happened in some form or the other, but they went through 'legends' treatment, they are second, third, tenth hand recount and so the details are hazy, allowing Story Group to play with them any way they want. These might be some of the stories Rey heard about Luke.

If I had a twitter account, I would ask Pablo or someone from Disney-Lucasfilm Press. :D

Yeah, when I read about this book, I didn't think of it as "Legends" (stories that we know as non-canon) more like "legends", or random stories told by people from different points of the galaxy about that mysterious Jedi knight called Luke Skywalker.

I find this interesting since it is like we are seeing a story told from the point of view of others, not from the main character. It is like "Lost Stars" when Thane is sort of puzzled about this farm boy called Luke and that smuggler Han Solo having these roles of authority in the Rebellion, when the one he is more acknowledged with is Princess Leia. So I guess it will be interesting to hear the tales about this "legendary" Jedi who was part of the Rebellion when people knew the Jedi were no more around and helped to defeat the Empire.

And yeah, as frustrating as it might sound, I did not think the Story Group would give more details about what happened with Luke between ROTJ and TFA before releasing TLJ. But hey, there is a little bit of truth in legends and later on we might go back and revisit this book and think "oh yeah, this actually ended up being true!" and so on.

iam going to guess most of these tales are going to be set during the OT time line with maybe one or two set after RotJ.
Do we have info on how meny tales are going to be in the book as that could be a way of telling if they are going to cover any of Luke's time after RotJ.

We have none, however, considering there is Luke's TFA image and one that could also be post-RotJ on the cover, at least some of them will be set post Return of the Jedi or, you know, false advertisement. :D

Although we should not focus on the details of these stories, they should give us a clue about what Luke has been doing all those years.

Initially I dismissed this book, but the more I think about it, I feel is could be a really fun read. Given the lack of knowledge about Luke, the Jedi and the Force in general in the galaxy by the time of TFA I think this might contain some great little stories about incredible achievements that people don't understand and recite as their first experiences of having witnessed the Force. Coming from a state of complete ignorance towards such a power, I have a feeling that some of these tales might well be over the top exaggerated, but provide nuggets of truth as to what Luke has been up to. Can't wait.

Yeah I'm starting to think this relates to Rey and Finn thinking he was a myth and hearing stories about what he did. The real Luke, however, is probably a lot different.

I bet Maz will be telling the stories since she seems to have become the designated storyteller.

Lucasfilm keeps using this form of storytelling to expand the universe and get different perspectives, but It's lazy storytelling to me. If they don't link everything up or if things are consistent they just say "hey it's all just a certain point of view" but the star wars universe isn't real life we don't need this. make the stories link up and matter. Reward us with stories that expand the characters and events but it has to count to the greater story. Legends of Luke is one of the good books for expanding the universe but I don't think any of these stories will ever be confirmed as true or false...just legends. Which bugs me a bit.
