    hey all,

I am currently watching ANH right now and Obi-Wan Kenobi explains to Luke Skywalker about he force, calling it an energy field that binds us to the living or whatever. In TPM, Qui-Gon Jinn says something very similar about the force to Anakin Skywalker about how the force is also an energy for that binds us or whatever...utilizing similar wording to Obi-Wan Kenobi in ANH, except he talks about how midi chlorine makeup that living energy of the force . Is this just a familiarity that GL wanted to add to TPM or is he actually simply adding a history to the "energy force field" hats first mentioned in ANHeven thoigh a lot of people are turned off by the idea ?

I would say it is a bit of both. Whilst the wording was intended to be familiar (Star Wars poetry), it was also meant to introduce the audience to a more knowledgeable and religious Jedi society. Essentially, George Lucas used it as a stepping stone to further expand force-lore, as had been going on for some time in the Legends EU.

Side note: Your midi-chlorian point is a common misconception, Qui-Gon Jinn never states that they generate the living force.

"Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the force." - Qui-Gon Jinn, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Mence

"All energy from the Living Force, from all things that have ever lived, feeds into the Cosmic Force, binding everything and communicating to us through the midi-chlorians. Because of this, I can speak to you now." - Qui-Gon Jinn, Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Hopefully, this answers your question :)
