"To ward" something, as a verb, does mean to guard or protect it. Ward, as a noun as Din uses it, would mean "the protected." Dick Grayson is Bruce Wayne's ward; someone without a guardian is a ward of the state.

Maybe the writers think it sounded more old-fashioned-y (the way the covert Mandos often talk) to use it with the meaning opposite to the way we'd use it in modern American English...?

Oh, yeah? What about "Ward" Cleaver?
He took care of Wally and Beaver.

Umm, hey guys, can someone tell me how to BLOCK a user on here? You know, just in case I hypothetically wanted to...:D

    English is weird.

Run is an action that you take. "Run away!" It's also an event. "That was a fun charity run."/"Looks like I'm the one doing the school run. I'll get the keys to the minivan."
And it can be a place. "I've built a run between the chicken coup and the barnyard."

You ward off predators. Or infection. The ward is where people are looked after (a building or districtl). The ward is the person looked after. And they are the protector. See also warder/warden.

New here, but have been watching the Mandalorian back and front for the last couple of months. Just this episode I watched like 3 times already. So I have some speculations.. we now see Grogu being armored up.. first the chain mail and now the shield.. which probably means he will be in in some kind of Mandalorian battle, not just pushed aside. But what if he gets injured in some kind of way, or there is some kind of internal battle with Bo-Katan wanting the dark saber. Where would Mando stand if this happened, I mean where would his priorities lie? With the Mandalorians or with Grogu.. if it came to an end point he needed to choose..

    Hi, @Lewisa, welcome!

Yeah, sadly I think getting that rondel means Grogu is going to get shot at or speared or something. If he got injured and there was a scenario like you describe, my guess would be that Mando would be on Grogu's side. Last season he chose Grogu again and again over tradition and belonging by taking off his helmet for him--although of course Mando would always prefer to have both Grogu and belonging with the other Mandos.

As you said, it feel they are setting it up for Grogu getting injured otherwise he wouldn't need all that shield already. Saying that he won't get killed of because that means the end to the show.. But it will be interesting to see.

Mando always sort of shielded him in past episodes, but now that he knows the stuff he can do I can definitely see more battles for Grogu, but how much can Mando focus on the battle if he knows he sort of needs to protect Grogu at the same time. Grogu has been part of the battles before but most of the time just stood on the sideline and jumped in to help with like one big creature. But will we see being used in the front? And how much can Grogu use his powers until his energy is drained? I think his total has been two times before he goes to sleep?

I still think Mandos two roles, as a father/protector and a mandalorian will come into conflict once again.. or that Bo-Katan power will get to her.. and she will go bonkers. I mean something must happen within the mandalorians and their set up. It can't be all happy, this is the way kind of group/sect for that long..

You do mean Din Wally Djarin, right?

Exactly the first thing I thought when she fitted it on him. Maybe not though, since they already used that gag with Greef and the Beskar ingot in Chapter 3.

Lol. Thanks, but for the record, I was jus' keeding... because of @DailyPlunge 's frivolous invocation of the dreaded JJB.

I know, I know, I know... It does make a little sense, and the speculation is out there... I have mentally blocked the fact that he was a Senator from Naboo at this time.

Somebody on SWExplained did just pose a pretty funny idea, what if Beq and JarJar meet face to face in a later flashback to hand-off Grogu.

While this week's Mandalorian episode was only 32 minutes long, it was action-packed and told us some mighty tales. Not only did Gogru demonstrate his worth as a Foundling, but Bo Katan showed her stuff and Gogru got his first piece of armor.
Besides Bo Katan receiving all kinds of affirmation that The Way is worth walking, and receiving affirmation of her value in her new community, and Mando gaining the respect of Viszla while recovering his son from the bird-things, we got the story on how Gogru managed to get out of the Jedi Temple during Order 66.
The community had a lot of theories about who helped Gogru get out and how they did it, but it turns out that a whole 'nother Jedi, a human, managed it with the help of some Naboo guards. Now it remains to be seen what happened to Gogru next, on his way to becoming the subject of a bounty hunt by the Imperial Remnant.
My wife and I enjoyed this episode immensely. Lots of action, no filler, and lots of questions answered. While I certainly prefer to get a massive 58-minute dose such as we did last week, this was just fine. Personally I think the third season has been worth the long wait. It had a complex start but that was just because of where the story had been left off. Things of the past merited explanation. Now we're off and flying.
What happens next? Besides continuing to flash back to Gogru's history before the beginning of his time with Dinn, we'll see how Bo Katan continues to function among the Children of the Watch. We'll see her friendship with Dinn continue to grow and we'll see Dinn continue to make a friend of Viszla, unless there's more to contend with regarding that old lightsaber... which hasn't made an appearance of late. That's another thing I expect to see very soon

I had no idea who Kelleran Beq was before this episode. Ahmed Best, sure, and I did remember him having a cameo in one of the prequels. I am absolutely thrilled for him to get this chance to play a pretty key role in the story. I make no bones about my feelings for Jar Jar, but I hate the turmoil that Ahmed went through as backlash. Just stupidity and nonsense on behalf of the fans. Ok. So hear me out here, I have watched a couple of the Jedi Temple Challenge episodes tonight. I have a theory.

Kelleran Beq was created for this storyline. It's already been stated that the character is related to Best's cameo character, Ack-Med Beq, and the Jedi Temple Challenge came out in 2020, so AFTER we meet The Child in Mando Chapter 1. This seems a much more likely progression than Favreau and Filoni just pulling an obscure character from an equally obscure game show. I love the idea that they saw this as an opportunity to give Best a well-deserved comeback, and the game show was a fun little test-run to establish the character.

    Thoughts?

I was thinking last night in the scene where they all had to go their separate ways to eat..
Now that Din is always around Grogu.. does that mean he never removes helmet? Like does he say to Grogu, you wait here.. I have to go and eat? I mean we all know he hardly lets Grogu out of his sight..
We've seen the scene where he sort of tilts his helmet to eat broth but he just can't keep eating broth all the time.
And now sleeping.. I guess he just always sleeps with his helmet on.. just doesn't look very comfortable.

Could be, but personally I expect that the overwhelming support Ahmed Best got when he came out about his psych issues and suicide attempt/ideation brought on by his vile treatment by "fans" after the PT, might have spurred a change in the writing here. I could be wrong, though. (When did that happen compared to casting and shooting S3?)
