Despite been an absolute Jodorowski fanatic after torture myself trying to conclude the watching of "Montanha Sagrada" (Sacred Mountain i guess) i realize it's better to stick to Jodorowski classic BD (Incal, Meta-Barons, TechnoPriests, Diosamante, Alef Thau, Pietrolino, Borgias,...............)

JJ seems pretty on the ball to me. I hope he's nice enough to treat his audience as intelligent too and has equipped the modern TIE fighter with some shields after all this time.

If I can notice this, surely an Empire can conclude that poor maneuverability in atmosphere, no hyperdrive capability and zero shielding begs some serious design improvement...

I've watched that documentary you are referring to and Lucas actually says:

"I made MORE American Graffiti and made ten cents"... He's talking about the sequel to American Graffiti, not the original American Graffiti, which was a smash hit. The sequel flopped. The context of him saying this is that sometimes you don't always get it right and you can mess these things (sequels/prequels) up.

One thing I've always taken away from Abrahms' scifi work is he seems to be a little more heavy on the "fi" and less on the "sci". His movies seem more emotional than cerebral, to me. That's okay, because Star Wars is also that way. Trying to get too technical, for example with where the Force comes from, was a bad idea I think. But I think this is going to be a very emotion-laden movie, more so than the others. I think it will be very dramatic, and while it will have its light moments, I'm sure, I just have a feeling we'll not just be dazzled, but moved.

That's a whole different feel for a Star Wars movie. They're exciting, they're fun, they have great stories and characters and usually wonderful cinematography. However, I wouldn't be surprised if a tear or two were shed by the end of this thing, for all kinds of reasons, and not just because someone dies.

Loved that documentary, it was actually (surprisingly) incredibly moving. Made me pick up a copy of Dune too, to see what was altered. Then pick up the proceeding 5 sequels after I smashed over the original in a weekend...

Enjoying how this thread descended into a giant auterist-theory inspired discussion. We've always got to remember - directors are essentially project managers. Individuals that bring people together with their vision, to create a shared vision, for us to share haha.

Rare to see so much discussion w/o douchebaggery and ego on the interwebs.

Anybody read the wired interview of Abrams yet? I picked up one thing that I haven't seen anywhere else yet:

"Now I know that when I see the Falcon with the rectangular dish, we’re at a moment after it traded hands. It also helped us mark time."

Is he referring to Han lending it to Lando, or did JJ just let a plot-point slip out... probably the former, and he just worded it a bit poorly, but time will tell.

Not sure I have ever seen it, not sure.. But its cool...looks like the trooper enter the castle at some point and not just a MOP up job after the descruction.

Edited by myself due to possible spoilers.......

I am just SO impressed with J.J. right now. I am actually floored as I really believe he learned a lot from Directing and Producing the STAR TREK's

This may have been addressed in this thread already, I have only gone back a few pages, but why isn't Abrams directing the rest of the ST? Is it because they are being filmed so close together and it's basically too much to handle (even for the notoriously energetic Abrams)?

well it is good to have new blood and new ideas in each episode.

George Directed all three of the prequels. I wonder how different it would have been if George had only Directed TPM?

I was really disappointed that they didn't bring him back on for 9... or Johnson for 9. Trank seems like an awful choice!

Abrams has kids & stuff so I'd tend to think maybe he didn't want to get too wrapped up in it, cuz it's easy to miss out on a lot if you commit to a trilogy. But Yeah I agree... nice to switch it up a bit.

Hopefully Trank will be overseen by the producers & if I recall Johnson is writing Ep9?

Marquand's touch in ROTJ seemed very subtle... though Lucas was breathing down his neck over the perceived disaster (ESB) (LOL).

My hope is that either Johnson or Abrams will bring in their respective cinematographers & that the production will ensure it's not as video gamey as Jurassic World.

I just looked up the IMDB for Star Wars 9... looks like Trevorow is using the same cinematographer, but Johnson is writing & his producer is listed as being on board for 9... so perhaps that bodes well ? ;)

It's Colin Tevorrow who is directing IX. Not Trank
