I hope this is the right place for this topic... It is sort-of Star Wars related but on the other hand it's not directly based on any official Star Wars movie, game etc... So I decided to post it here. Moderators, feel free to move this thread to any other suitable section.

Well, having watched quite a lot of space documentaries lately, I came across the relatively new concepts of dark matter and dark energy. According to scientists, dark matter is resonsible for gravity, the creational aspects of the universe that gives matter order, that "binds the universe together", whereas dark energy is responsible for universal expansion, i.e. the destructive force of nature that will eventually lead to total chaos and the heat death of the universe...

I wonder whether these two previously unknown forces could serve as a scientific explanation for "the Light Side" and the "Dark Side" of the Force, with the light side being dark matter, the gravity that binds us together and dark energy being all about destruction, expansion and eventually death, aka the "dark side"...

It would be an intriguing concept to conclude that Force users are able to manipulate both of these unseen forces of nature in their favour through Midichlorians.

    What do you think?

I think that's a creative idea, but I don't think the metaphor works in real life. Dark matter and dark energy are two placeholder names for unknown phenomena. In the case of dark matter, as you state in your post, its presence is known due to its gravitational effects on large-scale structures. Like galaxies. Gravity is a product of mass, which is a property of matter. So although dark energy is a somewhat vacuous and undefined idea, dark matter is referring to something very specific. And unless you think that "penetrates us and binds the galaxy together" means that when we get near each other we are physically compelled to get closer to each other (and I know you don't :) ), then I don't think the metaphor can be stretched any further than a poetic similarity.

Sounds like someone is delving into string theory and quantum mechanics.

My one comment here for now is this--if all matter connects, reacts, and exists together, we're all one, no matter how separate we think we are. Religiously, it's closest to Buddhism, as their desire it to "be one with all." I think that religion had a lot of influence on Lucas for the Jedi, if I remember my interviews correctly.

    Bravo!! Well, put!

We have to remember that if it and we are all connected, then there are a fractional percentile of us that can (or are willing) to feel/interact with it. In the SW universe, people have heard of the force but consider it a myth, or a fantasy, or a crazy religion...which may be not too far off from how we think here and now.

Honestly, we can't even consider (but can try) debating on the existence of such a thing...because we are (most likely) too primitive and young of a species to relate to it. In terms of present science, there may VERY WELL be theories (String) that address such a thing, but we're so ignorant of the cosmic variables that we can only "view the coast of the new world from a distance" because we lack the knowledge to approach it.

Personally.....I think such a thing could very well exist. Seriously. "WE", here and now, will never know or understand it in this life....it will only come in tens, or hundreds, or thousands of generations from now.....think of the "Ah-Ha!" moment when that mystery is finally unraveled tho.....Eureka. It will be a new age in mankind....good or bad.

I actually think this is true... to a point. If there's any scientific support for the Force, it'll be in the quantum realm.

Also, I feel like a buzz kill. People are saying very beautiful things and I'm all like "Gravity!" Oh well. It's what I've got to offer.
