The Skywalker life of servitude

From what we've been able to ascertain about Rey, she is a scavenger forced to not only survive but to trade her finds at the local trading post at a fraction of their value for necessities like food and water. The 'system' of scavenging and trade on Jakku seems on par with how the Hutts govern. Assuming she is of the Skywalker bloodline, this life of servitude and lack of freedom seems to be the case with every other blood relative of their family(Luke, to a far lesser extent).

we have:

• Shmi Skywalker - a slave under Watto. She had an unwanted and unexplainable pregnancy. Although freed off camera, she was later kidnapped and subject to torture and possibly worse. Upon being freed of her restraints by her son she passed away due to her injuries and/or condition.
  
• Anakin Skywalker, - born into slavery. Later, a padawan who is increasingly at odds with his lack of freedom; and finally a Sith Lord who is forced to obey Palpatine's every order. He may show up as a force ghost to aid Luke in the coming trilogy and try to undo some of the damage he's done in his past life.
  
• Luke Skywalker, a farm boy. His uncle Owen was strict, worked Luke hard and forbade him from talking to the hermit Ben. As Luke approached manhood Owen continued to treat him like a child and up until his murder, seemed intent on keeping Luke from leaving to join the academy (although it is assumed Owen Lars knew Luke might stumble on the Rebel Alliance and discover his Force abilities). After the murder of his uncle, Luke became intent on helping the Rebel Alliance and stopping at nothing to deliver R2D2 to them as well as rescuing Princess Leia. Years later, after nearly dying on Hoth, Obi Wan reappeared and revealed his destiny to be trained as a Jedi Knight by Master Yoda. Luke came to know that becoming a Jedi was crucial to saving the galaxy from the Empire, and upon the death of Master Yoda, Luke was faced with the burden of restoring the Jedi order. 30 years after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker is speculated to have begun a Jedi order and is currently in hiding. Luke's activities while in hiding remain a mystery, but it is speculated that he is serving the greater good...
  
• Leia Organa(born Leia Skywalker) - Leia was adopted by Bail Organa and taught from a young age that the Galactic Empire needed to be overthrown. She served as Senator and used her political position to aid Rebel missions and hide known Rebels. Ultimately, she was caught smuggling stolen technical data of the Empire's Death Star and arrested for treason by Darth Vader. She was interrogated and forced to watch her home world be completely destroyed. Upon being rescued by Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca she dedicated her life to the Rebel cause, going from political machinations to one of the Rebel leaders. After escaping the Imperial assault on Hoth, and fleeing to Cloud City and narrowly escaping capture, she organized a plan with Luke to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. She was captured and forced into slavery to be one of Jabba's scantily clad female 'pets', who were chained and dropped into the Rancor pit if they displeased him. Upon being rescued again by Luke, she joined the front lines in the stealth mission to destroy the Endor shield generator as the Death Star 2 and Emperor Palpatine were destroyed. 30 years after the Battle of Endor, Leia Organa continues to serve as leader of the Rebel/Resistance army, who strive to ultimately bring peace to the galaxy.
• Rey Skywalker/Solo(?) - a scavenger of Jakku. She is at the mercy of local gangster Unkar Plutt, and searches for precious scraps from downed starships in order to trade them at the local outpost for basic necessities and possibly a small sum of money. She becomes involved with the Resistance plot to bring the lightsaber of Luke and Anakin Skywalker to Leia, and is tasked to seek out Luke Skywalker and it is speculated that she is to be trained as a Jedi by him.

To paraphrase the BuddhaCP0, they seem to be meant to suffer. It's their lot in life.
