I can't believe my thread came back to life!

So yeah, now that I've sen the movie 4 or 5 times I still really love it. Most of my problems with the movie I have come to terms with. But yes, the Leah/Han scene still really stands out as a weak point in the film. And that is really sad because Han and Leia together in the same scene should be magic, you know? The thing is, you can't really just point to one thing. The dialog in that scene is not great, and the acting wasn't the strongest either, particularly Carrie's unfortunately.

I ended up finding the film acceptable. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great (3.5/ 5):

Some of what I did like:
    • There were some cool action scenes
    • Finn
    • Light-hearted tone
    • Poe Dameron
    • Story was reasonably solid
    • Most of the lightsaber combat
    Some things I'm neutral on:
    • Rey: she was able to solve too many problems. Sometimes she felt like 9 year-old Anakin on steroids (I exaggerate).
    • Familiarity: Some OT callbacks worked, some made me roll my eyes
    • Not enough Luke
    • Practical effects: some worked, some were terrible e.g. that thing at the water trough
Some of what i didn't like:
    • Second half of the lightsaber duel
    • The Republic and its fleet is destroyed. Why the hell did we waste three films building it up again?
    • Snoke: his appearance served no purpose in the film. He could have been name dropped like the Emperor instead, and it would have had the same effect.
    • Starkiller Base: really?
    • Politics: how are still meant to believe Leia is a senator if we've never seen her in action?
    • Phasma
    • No new starships

One thing about the republic being destroyed:

only what we saw was destroyed.

I also didn't like the duels.

Oh...I remembered what I don't like....am I the only one but "Supreme Leader Snoke" formulation reminds me of some silly villain's name in a parody movie....

    "Supreme leader is wise...." ouch
Better tittle us needed....who was jn charge of this, should be reassigned to.....uhmmm...sanitation maybe :p

But the movie says that the main fleet was orbiting Hosnian Prime, and if rumours are to be believed, the Resistance will be further set back after losing half their fleet in the Starkiller battle. Not to mention, the demilitarisation of the Repubic before The Force Awakens.

I'm really hoping Disney/Lucasfim is listening to fans feedback on all of this. We want Luke. Period. Doesn't matter that they are introducing new characters, we all still want Luke Skywalker to be involved.

What I meant was that the entire Republic wasn't ONLY The Hosnian System...

I know that, I'm just saying that the military was centralised along with all the senate. This means that the Republic whilst not officially destroyed, is effectively disabanded.
