Pablo Hidalgo in the TLJ Visual dictionary writes Pretorian Guards are sentinels. This could mean in a broad sense, a guard, but in the new canon there is exact use of that word - sentinel to describe advanced droids used by late Empire and First Order . Please refer my thread about sentinels, I was ,though, properly nailed yesterday even by the officals for claimig, obviously in their eyes,a heresy...so no, by democratic rule I can not anymore claim its confirmed because majority of people think its impossible though its for me confirmed..

this sound like dark empire mixed with silmarillion (The part with sauron)

Now even "sentinels" where in dark empire.

I'm very interested in the whole ancient Force user thing with Snoke, and this whole "Prime Jedi" idea absolutely is going to play into this film somehow. Whether it's Snoke himself that was The Prime Jedi and he's out to fix the Jedi order that's gone astray from the original ideals/purpose; OR whether the Prime Jedi was the one that inflicted the damage on Snoke and thus, now awakened, Snoke is out for revenge against The Last Jedi (aka Luke, natch). Something like that sounds more plausible to me. OR Snoke, as Prime Jedi, was somehow betrayed by Jedi that arose after him, and they caused his injuries, and now he's awakened and out for revenge against Luke The Last Jedi. Something like that. Spitballin.

Or, my original wacky idea from way back, that Anakin was the Prime Jedi reincarnated, Snoke is the "father" or "brother" from the Mortis Arc, and thus semi-immortal, and he's out for revenge against The Last Jedi, who also happens to be Anakin's son, etc. etc.

All just speculation, which is amazing that we're all still speculating a week out from the movie. What a wonderful gift from Rian, Lucasfilm, and Disney to deliver us an unspoiled film. Impressive. Really, in the end, that's all I care about. Tell me a story. Tell me one I don't know. That's all. The rest is gravy.

Interesting and certainly plausable. I just had another thought, what if the Jedi and Sith were once one and the same.... followers of the Prime Jedi. Once he or they fell (for what ever reason), the followers split into two different groups due to different ideals, opinions, and what direction should be taken. Jedi went with using the force for "perceived" selflessness and the Sith for self service. Snoke was the balance using both light and dark. Could have been the differences of the followers that destroyed the Prime Jedi, the children killed the parents.

It is possible but just because they were referred to as Sentinels doesn't translate into being a droid. The word "Sentinel" is just a synonym for "guard". The reference could simply just mean they are Snoke's guards.
