This thread is dedicated to The Phantom Menace and why imo this is the funnest Star Wars movie ever produced. There will be various images in this thread to bring back the nostalgia feeling of the first episode.

When I first saw The Phantom Menace I was enthralled. To this day, I am enthralled.

This is to discuss your favorite parts of TPM and what makes it one of the funnest Star Wars movies to date.

The Phantom Menace made history. It was the first Star Wars film from the seriousness of the OT, and went into a new direction. One less serious, with more goofiness and slapstick, than ever before. Yet it maintained the seriousness of its predecessors with characters such as Darth Maul, Qui Gon, and key plot points.

To me, TPM was the embodiment of Star Wars. We took a trip into the past to see the first relationship between a Jedi Master and his apprentice. We went into the good times of the galaxy, before the Empire, witnessing free societies having fun at podraces.

Does anyone remember the homeage to the Three Stooges in the form of a pit crew? Where one robot accidently hits another then the other pokes the other in its camera eye?

Ah, these were the days of Star Wars. Slap stick humor and goofiness abound.... before the dark times... before the Empire.

Where goofy aliens from all across the galaxy would gather, putting down their various squabbles and nuiances to enjoy podracing.... these were the TIMES:

But alas, we are in a new era once again, the serious serious era....

However that doesn't mean we can't reflect on the past and what we had.... the excitement... the fun... the Jedi flowing through the galaxy.... the galaxies together and fun.... more fun..... fun.... more fun....

    Wootini!

Ah yes, The Phatom Menace. What a light of hope on the galaxy, the embodiment of a movie when Jedi roamed freely across the galaxies, aliens came together, and the Republic flourished!

Perhaps one day we will see this again. More podracing, more activities. But unfortunately, my good friends, we are back in the serious serious serious Star Wars era again, trying to go back to the Empire. All the goofy aliens have hidden under the rocks, the podraces have ceased, the galaxy is still again.

But maybe, just maybe, a champion will come, a chosen one, to bring back peace, justice, to reunite the galaxy under the Republic, for more fun times, for more excitement.

I miss the Republic and the old Star Wars. :(

Please tell me there is a beacon of hope. Please tell me we can get back to prosperous times across thr galaxy. To the fun, the enjoyment that has been left behind. Please tell me a champion exists to bring us back..... back to the good times.
    (yoda)

Sigh... yes the Phantom Menace such a HORRIBLE movie *sarcasm*

Please tell me we can go back to the good times of the galaxy again......

    "Make the galaxy great again"

I don't mind the podrace, but really didn't like the twin headed commentator character (whose name I never bothered learning). Too much talking, childish humour and too distracting.

Its also the setting for one of my favourite levels in the PS1 videogame version of The Phantom Menace, arguabably one of the most fun and glitchy games ever created,;)

This is actually how I see TPM, too. It's so tonally different than all the others, and represents a kind of innocence that inhabits the galaxy; just before the dark times. Anakin himself is a physical embodiment of the state of the galaxy; a child who, while not living a life of luxury, feels as if his future has limitless possibilities.

Yeah, I actually don't mind TPM that much. Jar Jar is kind of a disaster, but I do like that it gives us a look at a Galaxy not really at war. It almost feels a little fan fiction-y, in that it feels really disconnected from the rest of the series, but I think as a single movie it's actually pretty well self contained.

If your idea of humor in Star Wars is goofball kiddie nonsense, fake-looking CG cartoon characters and fart and poop humor, I can see why you liked TPM. I think The Force Awakens, like the originals, had a good amount of humor in it without resorting to juvenile stupidness like TPM did.

Coming down pretty hard on someone's opinion. People are allowed to like TPM and discuss it here without the crushing negativity.

I never said they weren't allowed to like anything. However, I am allowed to call something stupid. If someone is too sensitive to handle a difference of opinion, then they should go someplace else.

The two-headed commentators was simply one speaking in english and the other talking the same thing in another language.

    Your opinion is noted.

Moving on I would like to say I am glad this movie appealed to both children and adults.

I think for those who didn't like it they could learn a lesson from Peter Pan. Where the grown up Peter Pan visits the lost boys and they show him what a boring stiffler he had become, devoid of his childhood happiness. But thats just my opinion.

Regardless, I enjoyed the slapstick funny with TPM and so did many others, and in Jedi fashion, am glad it brought children and adults together.

At least TPM has some good moments. The only movie that I like of the prequels.
