SPECULATION Time Between Ep VII And Ep VIII

Every star wars so far has had a time gap so it'll be weird if the next one doesn't. Specially if you consider the nature of the opening of every star wars movie, with an opening crawl that updates the audience with what they need to know. If the opening crawl is just "previously on star wars" that will suck.

Rey will probably have been training with Luke for a while then something happens with the First Order or something and the Resistance summons the two of them to help. But my guess is just too safe and boring so it'll probably end up being something completely different.

 

If there's no time gap then there's no crawl... Which would obviously never happen.

 

I'm willing to bet there will be literally months between this and episode 8.

 

One year at the minimum.

 

I think that there will be one or two years between the two movies. We will not see much of Rey's and Kylo Ren's training or Finn's recovery.

 

I believe at least a year or two to allow the training of Kylo and Rey to be completed in some form, i believe Luke will NOT be the hero everyone wants him to be, he never has been, he will only come forward in the most dire scenario which will probably present itself at some point in VIII or IX.

Its important that VIII Does not resemble V, yes i hope the bad guys win, but not in the i am your father we kick your ass in Hoth way but more in a Resistance vs. First Order bonanza enviorment that scars the galaxy and our heroes, letting the POV subject of whos the good guy out in the open on a political viewpoint, making everything super messed up and giving our heroes no hope on either side.

 

How much time took place between Episode 4 and Episode 5?
I think about that long should be the gap between 7 and 8. Gives Rey and Kylo time to train up, but not enough time that they are experts yet. That will come in Episode 9.

 

Three years between ANH and ESB.

 

My first vote was 'no gap' but... I think it's going to be a very short one... a few months like @Grand Admiral Kraum suggests.

 

A few months. One year tops.

 

It needs to be long enough so that they can establish the situation of things quickly and in a way that doesn't need much if any explanation, but not too long so that key plot points have to be explained in detail. I'd prefer that the movie covers the here and now and any other exposition (flashbacks) are used only where necessary.

 

As Mark and Daisy filmed on Skellig - does it not suggest that VIII could carry on straight where VII left off? I sort of hope so, as I would like to see more of Luke's reaction and explanations for his actions to Rey. But, also there could be a longer period of time passing and VIII takes off from Rey's partial or complete training.

 

I would imagine Episode 8 will start out a lot like ESB with a battle in some remote system and Rey is there to help out. She then returns to Skelleg to complete her training with Luke. I don't think we are going to see a lot that though. If anything, I think Kylo Ren's training with Snoke will be Episode 8s "Dagobah". We've already seen light side training, now it would be interesting to see the dark side. As good as things went for Rey in TFA, Episode 8 is probably going to be hard on her, and it will end appearing that Kylo Ren has taken the upper hand in force abilities.

 

There has to be a time gap for our opening scroll to explain. As far as training goes, we should see more of Rey and less of Kylo for one simple fact, the dark side is a quicker and easier path, hence less training is required. Jedi training, is it ever really complete ( unless you've learned how to become onewiththe force) We've seen it take Anakin over a decade to complete his training, and patience is esential to a Jedi.

 

Since it's almost 2 years away I go with that.

Hey its actually only 519 days away until Episode 8. Under the old days it would almost be an unbearable 1000!!

 

I still find it odd that the time between RotJ and TFA hasn't been definitively established, unless the novel did it. All I've heard JJ say is 30 something.... Anyway, I'd say 1-2 years from Ep. 7 to Ep. 8. If I was Disney I'd just go with 17 months: exact time from Dec 2015 to May 2017.

 

I hope it's longer than a year, but I have a feeling it'll be days.
