    i think the perception of betrayal goes both ways, which is what makes this so tragic.
    if/when you see the movie again, look at his behavior/body language/expressions in the elevator.
    he is so wound up: does he dare hope she came for him? does he trust her? he wants to so badly.
    but let's face it: why would/should this kid trust anyone?

    yet he takes an enormous leap of faith--and wrongly assumes that when she says she will help him that it means she will join him.
    this is part of why he flips out later. he gave her his trust and he feels like she broke it.

    very Star Warsy and very subverty at the same time, by the way.
    it's a saga in which people implicitly trust one another time and again too easily.
