I look for more info on the Han Solo film than TLJ.

I have been out of the country for a bit so I haven't been in touch with anyone that may have heard anything for D23. I assume we will get a bit of BTS and a new movie announcement. There are other film properties that will be at D23 so I highly doubt we get much for Episode 7. Starwars I'm sure will have it's moment. I had heard that we were going to get a movie announcement and or possibly a show announcement at celebration, but they decided to with hold that announcement until this summer. At one time there was some talk (rumors) going around about a possible netflix exclusive show. Not saying that it is gonna be announced, but I would be willing to put some money on a movie announcement at D23. I think a certain actor of obiwan likeness will be brought on stage for the announcement. Just my own personal huntch.

In terms of trailers, not to speak too much out of turn right now since I have been out of the country for a bit, but from what I had heard before I left was that we probably aren't getting another trailer until end of summer. Again, I've been out of touch for a bit so if that time table has been moved up then that's good news for StarWars fans.

I think this is a pretty high likley hood like they did with R1.

They won't show the same trailer again. That would be completely pointless and a waste of presentation time.

I think it's likely that they'll save an actual trailer for SDCC, because that's more of a public event.

    I can read, dude.

My point is that there's absolutely no sense in showing the same trailer you already revealed three months ago to an audience which is there to either consume or report on the news. It would be better to tell the people there that they'll have to wait for SDCC for another trailer and show something else than it would be to blueball them with the trailer they've already watched a dozen times.

it looks to me as though Marvel are going pretty big for D23 this year. i suspect that there will be something juicy planned for SW fans.. but i'd lean towards Solo stuff if i had to guess.

perhaps even third stand alone announcement?

bit early for new TLJ footage, but i have been known to be wrong.. every time.

They already said that they're deciding on that in June, so it's only logical to expect an announcement at D23 (the following month) instead.

I think we'll see the full trailer debut around D23 simply because of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Then the final trailer in late October/early November with Thor. It just makes good marketing sense.

    "We shall see."

Definitely makes sense. I think the Rogue One trailer was in August sometime, so if they follow that then it sounds like end of the summer is the right call. Thanks for the response!

Having a hard time digging up old dates, but I think this is what I have:

    TFA Teaser #1: 11/28/2014
    TFA Teaser #2: 4/16/2015
TFA Trailer #1: 10/19/2015 (really? That seems pretty late... but I honestly don't remember much past teaser 2 anyway)

    TLJ Teaser #1: 4/17/2017

So, going by TFA standards, it could be a good while before we get something. Though, I'm not confident I have the right date for the full TFA trailer.

Anyway, Solo comes out not long at all after TLJ. Think we might get a trailer for that soon, too?

I think they will be going closer to how Rogue One released their trailers

    April
    August
    October

TFA was different because JJ wanted to get that first small teaser out over a year before the movie came out on Thanksgiving weekend. At least I'm hoping that they go by how Rogue One trailers were release. October is a long time to wait after that small teaser we got. I'm thinking mid to late August is going to be our best bet for first full trailer.

No kidding, that's a long wait.

It'll be interesting to see what they do.
I totally agree that TFA may have a different marketing strategy behind it, but the spinoff films might also get a different treatment.

Regardless, whatever happens, we won't even be able to accurately use it to predict Ep 9 trailers, since we're switching to the May schedule then. :p

We'll have Han Solo to base our predictions instead ;) (unless they move it back to December...)

That's not rumored, is it? As much as I like the holiday slot (enjoying it as a new holiday tradition) I was really looking forward to almost back to back Star Wars movies.

Rogue One is indeed the model that they're making use of here, not The Force Awakens. I would argue that due to the weird release window, Han Solo's ad campaign is going to have more in common with the one they did for The Force Awakens than Rogue One.
They won't. The thing about Han Solo is that there's never been word suggesting that they'd delay the release of the movie by seven months just because that release frame has worked for them so well twice (and soon, a third time). The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, conversely, were planned for May release windows before they decided that they needed more time. (Rogue One is the only movie that was absolutely planned for a December release date from the start.) Everything we know about Han Solo suggests that it's a movie that's going to be made on time and without a lot of creative overhauling to the central concept.

In the meantime, December 2018 is looking crowded as far as blockbusters go - even with Avatar 2's delay (which I guarantee is the key reason why they were targeting a May 2018 release window from the beginning), Disney still has Mary Poppins Returns scheduled for release at that time, and then there's the matter of the animated Spider-Man movie, Aquaman, and quite possibly Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines adaptation if that does well. The entire point of Star Wars moving to December in the first place was that it would have that window all to itself - and that's not looking to be the case at all with 2018.

I meant Episode IX, not Han Solo spinoff. There's no way they'll be able to cram it into December 2018 without damaging other Disney films or being detracted by other big releases.

Exactly. From what I've been told it sounds like they want to lock Episode IX in the Spring, which is why I also see a December 2019 release date as being improbable.
