There are many different elements from TLJ that are getting attention. From the Porgs to Luke's final stand, certain moments and factors seem to shine.

What little things, underappreciated things, or overlooked things did you love about TLJ?

    For me...

    1. Leia/Poe's bond. I like how he became her surrogate son in a way and I really enjoyed their screen time together.
    2. General Holdo. I know she isn't the most popular choice in some circles, but I thought the actress did a fantastic job and I loved her big moment. I enjoyed my own progression with the character-not liking her in the beginning to deep admiration.
    3. The Thala Siren. It was so weird and gross and strange. I love it. Very neat looking creature and the green milk will be the stuff of legend.
    4. Ahch-To Nuns. Another great addition to franchise and I loved their reaction to Rey's mishaps. Neat visual and interesting world-building choice.
    5. Red Guard melee weapons. Those were so cool and made for a neat combat moment.

Which overlooked, unpopular, or underappreciated things did you notice and enjoy?

    "I'm Rey."

    "I know."

    Feelz on all three viewings.

I can't remember the exact wordings of the exchange but somewhere during the opening action scene Leia tells C3PO to 'wipe that nervous expression of his face.'
Coupled with RJ granting us a reaction shot of the as always jittery protocol droid was such a Star Wars moment.

KR's spin when attacking the Raddus. It was a good trick.

Hummm...like the thread. Too many things. The ones I recall right now:

    ● Holdo. My favorite new character. All of her scenes are pretty good. The sacrifice is one of the best momments in the SW saga.
    ● The seacows, love their designs and the scenes are weird and funny.
    ● C3P0, I like how RJ deliver his lines. He was much more interesting than in TFA
    ● Same with R2, much more important.

To me the most important moment in the entire film is also very underappreciated.

Artoo is the reason Luke decided to "train" Rey and eventually reconnect to the force. Without R2's moment Luke may never come around. Especially after Luke boarding the Falcon and mourning Han, blaming himself even more. R2 coming along was the catalyst for everything that came after. I just wish we had more scenes of Luke and R2 together.

One thing that is overlooked that wasn't in the film that I think would have been important. Rey never told Luke about how she got the lightsaber. We never hear her tell him that the saber called to her. That the saber went to her instead of Ren on Starkiller. That she saw visions after touching the saber. Not one peep about it.

I like that we saw someone levitating with the Force in a Star Wars movie. Seems trite, but it’s always been something I’ve wanted and finally got.

Chewie flying the falcon and kicking a$$. Emotional, exciting, cool. You get the sense that Han is there with him. Good call putting Rey in the gunner.

My favorite shot was Luke standing on the mountain as the falcon flies off into the night. It was a very Star Warsy shot. I dislike a lot of what surrounds that moment...but I have to admit it was a good shot.

That entire scene from the moment we see the shadow of the Falcon over Crait...the music changing to Rey's theme...then shifting to the classic Falcon vs Ties theme from A New Hope. The feels! Then Chewie flying like a boss while slapping Porgs off the controls, freaking perfect scene.

Yep. Perfect. I actually got a lump in my throat the first time I saw it. Which was kind of embarrassing because I was letting out squeals of delight along with little baby cries of emotion.

    Chewie!!

It's so cool because you can see Chewie reaching over to Han's side to hit some levers. His long arms are just able to stretch and reach. It echo's back to Rey saying "it's not so easy without a co-pilot" in TFA. Just amazing attention to the little details.

It's the little things like that, that keep people so attached though.
And we got it twice....maybe three if you stretch the definition

I am with you on all except for the space cow.

I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything like that space cow.

I'll accept a lot in my Star Wars movie experience....udders are not on the list.

Well personally, I think Captain Canady is very underrated character and I hope there is a book/comic about him soon.

So true! R2 was minimally used with maximum effect, I thought.

In fact, I believe R2 was a critical catalyst, and perhaps he indirectly inspired Luke to the embrace the reverse idea of Leia's hologram:

to reply to her new plea by beaming himself to where she was and help her at her most "desperate hour" (as she first stated in ANH).

And it makes for such beautiful and meaningful symmetry between these siblings:

their first and last encounters in the physical world were through holographic messages, and both were bound in the fight against the Dark Side, at least long enough to light the spark of yet another New Hope.

    - Fans not figuring out that their disgust of Luke in the first two acts of the movie is a narrative set-up for his depiction in act III (the Luke they love) and as such completely intentional. Rey is also disgusted you know.

    - How the movie tries to establish space and place. Every space or place in the new movie is vibrant and well defined. I've just had a viewing in 4DX, even better.

    - How Leia's Mary Poppins moment isn't really about Leia, nor is it really made for us. It is there for Billie Lourd.

    - The Resistance identifying ever more strongly with the Rebellion.

    - Canto Bight and its narrative purpose: establishing space for the trickster DJ, Finn learning to see the galactic conflict through Rose's eyes, the moral ambivalency of the galaxy reflecting the emotional state of our main characters.

    - Why we can laugh at Hux. The best way to fight evil, is not only to make a stand or run, it is to ridicule.

    - How the movie identifies the three main events in Luke's journey in the originals and mirrors them in the opposite order. 1. How Luke sees Obi Wan's self-sacrifice in A New Hope, 2. The destructive consequences of Luke not trusting the force but helping his friends in ESB (the urge to control) 3. Luke's moment of darkness but then throwing away the sabre (trusting the force) in ROTJ.
