Ok technically not a spoiler that will ruin your day but just in case someone missed last nights episode of BOBF (can we call it that now?) there was a street gang recruited by our main Mandalorian. They were shiny, brightly colored, and tricked out with chrome.

so far I’ve loved this show. And it’s Predecessor but this… it really pulls me out the universe for a second. My wife’s thoughts were that they looked like they were pulled from another movie set. Like back to the future or something and somehow ended up on Tatooine. I don’t disagree.

the color of the bikes just screams at us though the screen. It just doesn’t fit the aesthetic that we know. Or the practicality. Or that lived in rustic feel that Star Wars is know for. Sand storms would chip away that pretty paint job overnight.

and that sloooow speed chase. I literally laughed out loud.

Im not trying to bash the franchise we all love. It’s just one of those things that felt out of place and kind of lame to be honest.

if they want to commit to a biker gang then commit, man.

I didn’t really mind them. I definitely think it’s something that George would have done. Even though I wasn’t a big fan of the gang itself, besides Sophie Thatcher’s character, I didn’t feel like they felt “un-Star Wars”. They really fit with that Episode 2 Coruscant aesthetic, like I could imagine these bikes parked outside of Dex’s Diner. Heck, I think they would have fit in on Corellia in Solo: A Star Wars Story. (I’m pretty sure Sophie Thatcher’s character is based on some unused Qi’ra concept art.) It’s odd to see such nice bikes on Tatooine of all places but Mos Espa is a big spaceport so I guess that explains it.

The colorful and expensive looking speeders don't make sense in the context of the Tatooine which we are shown. They easily could have fixed that by actually showing a new side of Tatooine.
Maybe there are poor destricts and then their are rich districts. The rich ones look totally different, maybe there are even plants with alot of green. The rich people have water. This could have given us a climps into the history of Tatooine.

In these rich districts we can see all different kinds of vehicles.

But the real problem isn't the look but the chase itself and its cinematography. If it had been more normal looking speeders, then the chase would still look silly.

    The Mos Espa Vespas.

These style of bikes would have worked for me had they been in the parking lot where Anakin stole the yellow speeder or zipping by Dallas Corbin's apartment in The Fifth Element but on Tatooine, this style of swoop bike just doesn't cut it IMO.
Complaints of water prices? The credits they could get for just one of those bikes would have provided them with plenty of water.

Not just the "Vespas", the style of the gang themselves looks forced and out of place. The guy with mechanical eye. He definitely belongs on a cubicle Borg ship. I can see him as having been assimilated but I can give the gang's enhanced prosthetics a pass. The bikes on the other hand?

You actually mean : such brilliant vehicles annoy you at a seemingly high level...
.... but those perfect teeth, that belong to a man who hardly lives in the desert, eats rats, started once to be digested inside an alien stomach.... no ?

I actually thought it was nice to see something shiny for change. Not everything has to torn, dirty, dent holes, broken and bruised up.

I am being a bit sarcastic, but it was nice seeing something that wasn't broken. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having some color or break from the mold, so to speak.

To me, the clean design isn't a problem at all. I actually quite liked it. This is like the car culture of Lucas' youth, and Tatooine has always been a stand in for his home town in some ways. Plus, as others have said, we've seen stuff like this on other planets.

what really makes it not feel like Star Wars is the colors. The blend of primary colors immediately takes your brain to Power Rangers or Voltron. There's nothing else like this in SW where a team is so brightly color coded like Bionicle characters. That said, I actually really liked it. I thought the flavor worked. But I don't blame anyone for getting hung up on it.

My real problem was how amazingly slow the bikes went during the chase. This is definitely, with no possible other contenders, the worst chase scene in Star Wars.

And... to remain in the center of such an annoying gang, what about the brilliantism and cleanliness of their clothes - at least, as shiny as their air-speeder-motos ?

Note for myself : Rewatch the episode to check if their teeth fit into the story of the show.

I honestly didn't mind them, but it was because I'm more of a fan of the "lets pick up strays and make them AWESOME" aspect of things than how well they actually fit in the story. Maybe I'll mind on my rewatch. Now, what I'm NOT entirely a fan of is how Boba is so weak that every time he gets new allies, he needs to be saved by them to show off their worth. I don't think that was needed here, since it makes Boba feel unworthy of the role IMO and super inconsistent with this flashback self (again, I'm willing to withhold full judgement on this until we know what happens), but it happened.

After reading this and the Ep 3 thread, I have to agree with those who feel everything is "too clean". Loved the grit and realism of previous SW projects, not sure why this is so jarring and different.....

Maybe it's a metaphor for youth? Star Wars prides itself (to the point of detriment IMO) on having that "worn-and-torn" feel. That "used and recycled and used again" feel. That lived-in feel. But maybe contrasting the bikers, that feel is to highlight how old traditions and old ways, and that Boba is bringing in fresh blood and new ways and new styles.

    Or not.

You're not wrong IMO, as that chase seemed....I don't even know....it reminded me of a bunch of school kids chasing another on their Schwinn bikes in 1975....and SHINY bikes at that.

It was more than a little cringe-worthy as I watched it. I mean they're a street gang, fine....but it seems that they would've invested in "Space Harleys" instead of the Vespas for...street cred, so to speak, ESPECIALLY on Tatooine.

    I just shook my head...

My first thought was that those speeders were too shiny and new for Tatooine, which I found to be suspect. And I wonder if that's the point. This gang consists of unemployed young adults living in the workers' district. How did they come by those shiny, new, and presumably expensive speeders? While I'm at it, who paid for their cybernetic implants? I may have missed an explanation in the dialogue, but I wonder if that gang has been privately bankrolled by a "player to be named later."

I had no problem with the vespas, but their clothes looked really weird. Maybe they will start a trend and in 2 episodes everyone on tatooine will have cool hip vespa outfits. Also i liked their cybernetics

Vespas are exactly what jobless kids would drive on a desert planet to feel better about their lives or as part of the galaxy. They are cheap and all you need is a spray paint to make them look cool. Plus, it's right out of American Graffiti. And you don't think they actually bought them? When they had to steal the water?

That's what I was going to suggest- no one would've batted an eye if we'd seen these on Coruscant in the prequels, or maybe even Corellia or Naboo.

But Tatooine? It's almost like these street youths are rebelling! Next they're gonna be coloring their hair, getting piercings, and having full sleeves of tatooes!

    *shakes cane at cloud

Obviously they don't look "Tatooiney". But I think maybe that's the point. They're supposed to stand out.

Exactly- I'm sure that a spaceport could have some spare paint lying around that the kids could've painted their bikes with. It's not like they need to all be made of rare metals only found in the lost mountains of Onderon or something, lol. It's a coat of paint.

I have many issues with Book of Boba Fett but the vespas aren’t one of them that takes high priority.

With that said, the vespas look too much like “earth.” The side mirrors could have literally have been purchased from any garage shop in Los Angeles. A little more design could have gone into it with more success.
I also do not like people’s argument that “they’re shiny and colorful, therefore… not my Star Wars!” I found shiny and new refreshing. I love the prequels and have been hungry for anything remotely similar to that aesthetic. Also, biker gangs on earth travel through the slums in their polished cars. And if i was a cyborg, I would have a deep respect for machines (since I am part machine.) I would polish up the thing I ride on, treating it well.
