For myself it wasn't just the shiny appearance. It was more of the aesthetic. They didn't feel right. They just did not seem to fit the starwars universe. They would have been much more appropriate in guardians of the galaxy.

I have to agree with you, Lord Phanatic. One of the beauties of the Star Wars universe is the way it draws fans into that world. While the showrunners might have had an explanation for their appearance, it didn't matter. Emotionally, all they did for me was jerk me out of the GFFA.

I mean, they were shockingly different. I guess it's kinda like how I felt about the sleek and shiny ships in TPM, so a similar explanation works- it's a different time and tone in the Galaxy. War is over, art and style matter again, etc...

Good point. I thought about Padme's Naboo Royal Starship and how it stood out which made more sense to me being that it's from a planet that is known for sleek fancy ships. The hover bike gang presented themselves as part of the indigenous population and that's where the problem begins with me. The show as a whole seemed rushed, not well thought out and thrown together. It had some dope moments but................mmmmmm meh.

The war is over, the economy is free again--buy something shiny and new.

It worked for me, as a short-hand that Tattoine has changed a bit, 5 years after Palpatine died.

    Goofy?

    Yes.

    Realistic?
Well, look at this world, and you will find some crazy cars in places people should be spending their money on clean water and education.
