For me it is ''there are gungan zombies, who are zombies for no explainable reason''. Sure because it is not like Assajj Ventress used the force to control them.

If you don't know what I am talking about just watch this.

So I watched the video, and have a comment or two:

The narrator of this editorial speaks about Boba Fett's escape from the Sarlaac Pit and states that "this is the biggest level of fan service in the entire saga." Well, he's probably right, but I'd like to make sure that the return of Darth Maul doesn't go unnoticed. Boba Fett was a survivalist who was heavily armored and heavily equipped and he fell into a pit which took its sweet time digesting its prey. With Fett's background, experience and instincts it is plausible that he could have escaped. Maul, on the other hand was bisected in half by a lightsaber. When Darth Maul fell down that shaft, his upper and lower half separate, specifically showing how there would be no reasonable explanation for survival. This was in contrast to when the Emperor fell down the shaft in Jedi, it could be plausible for a return. Fan service definitely brought Maul back. Also, I could argue that Maul was the more important character because he was responsible for the death of a main character (Qi Gon), and Boba Fett never killed any important characters in the movies.

    Love Maul, love Fett.

Now, as for the worst thing from the EU, I would have to pick something that would have an effect on the way JJ and KK could tell the new stories. Chewbacca's death would be it. I believe he is the only main character that survived Jedi and then was killed off in the EU. This would have impacted the story we are about to get in December.

Yeah,Darth Maul's survival didn't feel...natural.It felt forced and a bit unnecessary(especially he didn't impact much from a story point of view for someone that menacing).Boba Fett's presumable death was weird.Somebody who killed Jedi, was one of Vader's allies, was killed mistakenly by Han Solo and fell into that pit.He could have just started shooting, throw a detonator, anything!Hopefully a comic/novel will come out to clarify once and for all that he is alive.

Not to hate of Boba, and please please please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Boba just a bounty hunter that looked cool and became cooler after he died due to all of that lost potential (and the birth and growth of the EU)?

Worst things about the EU - I wasn't a fan of it for the most part until right before the buyout, and even then it was only the Legacy and KOTOR comics and Kenobi novel, so I guess I'd say how scrambled the continuity was?
That would also be my complain against the Old EU - if you wanted to get into it, where would you start?
Against the New EU - the most consistent one I've heard so far (which actually hasn't stopped the complainers from enjoying the New EU) is that it's not the old EU and all of their favorite characters are now non-canon.

    I can't answer your question cause when ROTJ debuted,I was -18 :D

I don't understand people complaining that for example:Thrawn is non canon,Mara Jade isn't canon anymore etc. because they were never canon! That was stupid of Lucas to make a level of canon. They either are,or not!Neither Mara or Thrawn(remember,it's just an example,EU fans usually complain about more) were approved characters by GL.To him, they were not there. So why the whole fuss?

I think the EU was a load of crap. Good riddence! Consecutive-voweled clones, a computer that brainswashes you into thinking you're a stormtrooper, a robot controlling the Death Star, making Mortis something that literally occured, etc.

Eh, I'd say that the EU was a mixed bag, there were some really great stories, some good stories, some OK stories, some bad stories and some terrible stories. I would say that there was more good than bad though, people just tend to remember some of the bad stuff(Cloned Emperor, Luuke Skywalker) the most.

I think the new canon material is going to be largely the same for most readers in the long run. There will be some great stories, some good stories, some OK stories, some bad stories and some terrible stories. Thankfully we can definitely rule out any appearance by clone Palpatine though ;).

One other thing I'd like to address regarding complaints about the old EU material is the complaint regarding the amount of material there was to sift through, as well as continuity problems. As far as the complaint regarding the amount of material, that will soon apply to the new canon material as well. Initially we had scant offerings available for new material, but things have really ramped up recently. We have the Rebels TV show, a continuous schedule of announced novels coming out, new films every year, and almost every week in the comic shop we have one or two new issues of Star Wars comics(sometimes more). Another thing to consider is that soon we will start to see more and more Star Wars video games that are canon as well, not to mention rumored Netflix TV shows and so on. I think its safe to say that Canon material going forward is bound to catch up to and even surpass EU material as the years go by, perhaps even quicker than we think.

The thing to consider regarding subjects that have a ton of material, is that they are seldom written in a manner that requires someone to be familiar with ALL previous material. When I started reading EU material I jumped right into the middle of it with the X-Wing series. I was able to thoroughly enjoy that series despite the fact that I hadn't read previous EU books like the Thrawn Trilogy at that point. Any plot points that referenced prior books were always explained properly in the one I was reading, so I never felt lost in that regard. The Star Wars films themselves work the same way, the opening crawl gives you everything you need to know in order to jump in and enjoy the movie. Additionally, I introduced several of my friends to the EU books at various points in the timeline and it never presented a problem, my buddy didn't need to read the stories where Jacen and Jaina grew up in order to understand them in the later material.

As for continuity, it was actually meticulously maintained for years, Leland Chee really did a great job of organizing it all. Continuity snafus hardly ever cropped up, and the ones that did tended to be very minor. When things really started to change was when The Clone Wars television series came out, suddenly George and the writers were contradicting the known EU stories quite often. The most frustrating thing about this and the levels of canon introduced around that time was the fact that even though the EU stories were never "truly" canon, rather than allowing them to continue as their own separate thing, they still had to adhere to any changes introduced in the Movies or Television shows. This started to lead to all kinds of messy retcons as well as certain series being cancelled outright, like the Republic Commando book series.

This is one area were the formation of the Lucasfilm Story Group and the new policies regarding canon definitely gives the new material an advantage. Part of me still hopes that they will instate some kind of continuity free label at some point in the future. The EU had this label for certain stories, they were branded as Star Wars Infinities tales. This allowed the writers to sometimes go crazy or to write more humorous and satirical Star Wars stories that wouldn't work in regular continuity. Most stories going forward should definitely be Canon, but it wouldn't hurt to have some fun with different possibilities down the line.

Good point. The EU should have been considered as something else rather than full fledged part of the continuity.I personally dislike the events after ROTJ.I could write a whole post about how dumb it was(no offence to people that like'em,I dislike MOST of it,not all).

Here's some things that were wrong with the EU:

The Jedi always thought that the Sith were extinct. Why couldn't they learn their lesson?

So many Jedi turned to the dark side that the galaxy would be better off without Jedi.

The Sith Empire in SWTOR uses the Imperial crest and the term "Moff " but the Galactic Empire got those things from the Republic.

The Clone Wars as described in the Thrawn books contradict the prequels.

Thanks for the trolling rating Darth Sidious, I think the guy who came in to the pro EU thread by stating that it was all a load of crap is the one who is likely trolling, not to mention off topic ;).

@Admiral Petty , remember our discussions about how the Hundred-Year Darkness happened too recently and how the potential of the Soth species was wasted?

By the way, I like the Massassi. They're a cool-looking bunch of warriors.

I do indeed remember that, which is why I was puzzled by your outright disdain for the EU in this thread.

My disdain was for the EU's former canonicity. Before the decanonization of the EU, many fans tried to shove the EU down my throat. There are elements of the EU that I like, but the parts I don't like make me glad that it's no longer canon.
