I don't know if they had an agenda as such. I think wanted to make what they regard as the best movie they could. I dont think they had any malicious or egotistical motives. It would seem they were told from the off that they wanted a comedy adventure for Star Wars and why else would kennedy and co hire their services if they didn't want them to do what they do best? I think it was poor judgement on the part of Lucasfilm to hire people knowing from their previous work what they would bring to the table. I dont blame Lord and miller at all actually. It seems to me that they wanted a Director to make a movie based purely on the script. Any number of Directors could have fitted that role but they chose lord and miller? It sounded like a strange choice when I first heard about it but I thought it could work if they wanted a different feel for the standalone movies to the saga ones. I actually now think they are backtracking from their original vision for what the stand alone movies were going to be and the freedom the directors would have and now they are playing it safe. Which when you are playing with a character like Han Solo its probably for the best!

Sometimes you take chances and it doesn’t work out. Such is life. Sometimes great players on a baseball team don’t get along because of who they are(Bryce Harper and J Paplebon) just like great baseball prospects don’t always pan out, you don’t know unless you try.

Empire and Jedi had big problems too. When Kershner was taking too long and Kurtz couldn’t rein him in, Lucas flew in and re-storyboarded the yoda training for Kershner to get it back on track.

Lucas also storyboarded the entire movie and directed all the VFX shots.

In Jedi, Marquand was inexperienced and Lucas had to do some of the technical shots.

Gone with the Wind’s original director was fired before Victor Fleming took over kind of like in Superman II.

Believe it or not, it is possible that Lord and Miller(whose work I do love) could have made a bad movie.

Well, the reshoots had started at the end of June and they are seemingly not done yet.
