It has always been said by George, as well as the new leaders (KK, JJ, RJ etc. ), that the Episodic films is the story of the Skywalker Family. That seemed very clear in the PT and OT but how does that fit with the ST? With 9 still to go, what's your guess on what role does this final third of the story will play into the Skywalker Saga?

PT: The rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker
OT: The redemption of Anakin Skywalker through the journey of his son, Luke
    ST: ???
    - The story of Rey Random who redeems Ben and thus redeems the Skywalker family, thus becoming the ultimate hero of a 9-film story?
    - The story of Rey Random who defeats Ben and liberates the galaxy, thus the 9 film Skywalker story ending on a tragic note?

    ST - ?
The end of the jedi and the Skywalker family.

I think TLJ leaves this subject pretty clear.
And I love how they are doing so far.

Why don't we get rid of Spider-Man & Batman since where getting rid of the Skywalker family 2.

PT: the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker
OT: the redemption of Anakin Skywalker
    ST: the Skywalker Toilet lol.

Disney should seriously consider removing the episodic saga tags from the current ST and retconning/remarketting them as just simply being SW movies about the new characters. They could then remake the ST properly and have it take place about 10 or so years before TFA. I really think this would be a good idea, and they should do it soon while Mark and Harrison are still alive and able. With regards to Carrie, they could just CGI Leia's scenes.

That was kind of what I was getting at with making this post. I'm not suggesting retconning and rebranding at this point. I think it's too late for that. While the two ST movies thus far are good, fun etc. movies, the decisions made so far with characters and plots makes the trilogy feel more like a spinoff/three-piece epilogue to the Ep.1-6 story rather than a continuation of it. I was hoping that someone could maybe point out something that I was missing because I want to be optimistic!

OT is about Luke mending and learning from Vader's mistakes. ST is about Rey learning from Luke's mistake? I think Kylo will learn something too.

ST: Is about finding the balance between light and dark.
Because the ways of the Jedi and the Sith clearly doesn't work.

Rey whose name is actually Reyna (which means peaceful Queen in Spanish by the way), is a descendant of one of Palpatine's brothers/sisters and will together with Ben become the balance of the universe.

I'm an advocate of this thinking: successive generations should learn from the mistakes of prior generations and be resolved to leave a better world (or galaxy) for the future.

Most central to this challenge is history.

    Critical awareness of history.

Perhaps one of the mythical Whills will step forth in IX, as a galactic historian of sorts, and reveal to Rey, as Maz Kanata did in TFA, the repetitive cycles of evil which have always plagued the galaxy.

I believe Luke Skywalker as a Force Ghost can also be very instructive to Rey, cluing her into aspects of the Force and Jedi history. Luke can also help Ben, I believe.

Overall, I'm of the mind that there must be learning with sincere resolve for betterment and peace for there to be any sense of victory and Skywalker-saga closure as of IX.

That there has been so much multi-generational failure means there is great education to be reaped. If Rey and others are willing students, they could literally become the change the galaxy so desperately needs.

The same can be said of our world: in the face of so many past failures, if more of us took the time to learn world history (not merely national history) and even political, philosophical, and cosmological history, we could more intelligently make more positive decisions, leaving the world better off than we found it.

Almost all conflict can be traced back to ideas, ideologies, perceptions (or, often enough, misperceptions), long before any physical conflicts arise. Learning of this can be empowering and liberating -- first with the self and then with civilization.

Those who do step up, taking some interest, exerting some personal and societal responsibility, and then going on to help to enlighten others can be agents of peace and ultimately heroic.

It is within each and all our power to do so, just as the Sequel Trilogy strongly implies concerning the Force and Force-sensitives.

We can learn. We can resolve to be better. We can be the heroes of our day.
