According to Wookiepedia it has to say about "Balance". Maybe this ties in to the awaking of the Force.

Another, similar prophecy existed among the Celestial group known as The Ones, although it instead focused on literal balance in the Force and required that the Chosen One succeed the Father once the latter had become too old to continue restraining the Son and the Daughter, the embodiments of the Dark Side of the Force and the Light side, respectively, as too much of either would spell disastrous consequences for the galaxy at large.

This could be why Luke and maybe Leia would have to die at some point in the Sequel Trilogy. Wiithout "Balance" you get just good and bad and no equal Force usage and you're able to defeat the Sith through no of "Balance" of the Force with that you have peace until the next "Balance" chosen one comes around. If anything, we know history repeats itself but, in different but, similar ways. This could be one of those ways.

To awake does not have mean to cease sleeping or become active again but to become conscious. The Force is neutral of the light and dark sides, thus having to be neutral it's will is to have balance between. If Luke does not want to take sides but instead do the will of the Force then he must keep it in balance and not let one side become too powerful. It is the only way to bring peace to a galaxy at war. Qui-Gon was an early example of doing the Force's will, many times defying the Jedi council, He spoke of the will of the force many times and ended up finding a way to communicate after death, and becoming Yoda master. If only Yoda knew that his real Master should have been the Force, but he stayed in the light and ignored the Force's will to be neutral or balanced. I think Luke does something extraordinary with the Force and is now able to communicate directly to It, something even Yoda could not do.

I think the Force which awakens will be dark as well as light. I think we will also get a Sith origin story mixed in with all the new mythology, because I kept reading for a while that one world they will visit is Moraband. Then again, see the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Ep VII (actually they also call it Ep XI) fan trailer on Youtube. Might be more bamboozling.

The Force Awakens means for me that unbalance is near and Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is a "sleeping/overwatching" Force has to act, who thinks that he acts by the Will of the Force to balance all things out. Something that is like the Mortis Arc...

I believe the title is a double entendre in that the Force on the surface (most obvious) application means that the Force (as in the Force users both Jedi & Sith) are re-emerging in the galaxy after the dark times when they were virtually extinct.

The hidden meaning refers to the Force (that one entity embodied in the main villain) that is "awakening" from a "sleep" to return to the galaxy and wreak havok. WHO that one entity is has been speculated upon since the D-Day announcement but I think the entity will be referred to in some manner as the ancient fear. IMO the One that seems to enbody this the most is Darth Plagueis.

I think it simply means a revelation. But to whom? Luke or the one he passes what he learned about the Force to?

Episode I-III: Too many force users
Episode IV-VI : Not enough force users
Episode VII-IX: Balance between not enough and too many.

I guess there will be alot of them in 7 then they get choped off and the rest is for balance? just a guess

I like the idea of the force needing a balance for a stable galaxy, but I don't think they'll go that way for morality reasons. Somehow the good side will end up winning, with the Sith ultimately being destroyed. (So I'm siding with Yoda, not Qui Gon).

So I agree with assumptions that the awakening is simply an ancient evil force coming back, and the real return of the Jedi. (VI was just the beginning).
