Showing my age here...I remember seeing STAR WARS before it became EP4. The interviews where Lucas stated there were 9 planned films, to shooting down any more films beyond the OT , stating EP III completed the Skywalker story and his "nah its my thing" when asked if he'd ever hand over the reigns to another filmmaker for a sequel trilogy. Heard way too many denials to believe anything Disney/Lucasfilms now say..

Irrelevant of what people may feel about the 9 films,The Skywalker storyline is not only one of the best in science fiction, but a cash cow for Disney and its shareholders.
Iger, Kennedy and Filoni might say no to sequels and/or reboot but ultimately they answer to shareholders.

The safe play would be for EP X but my gut says we'll get a Skywalker reboot within 15 years.
9 news movies to redo the entire Skywalker saga...

In all fairness I grew up in the 80s where SW dominated pop culture hence my affinity for the saga and the OT.
Whereas the newer fans then to lean more towards being SW in a new direction away from Jedi/Sith/Sabers etc

    Cheers, KH

...probably Episode X. I don't see Disney rebooting Star Wars anytime soon just yet. Maybe in another thirty to fifty years or so they will, but for now I think they'd rather just move on. As a compromise, Episode X may "soft reboot" the ST, like what Logan did with the X-Men movies, The Incredible Hulk with the 2004 Hulk movie, or what Disney did with Legends. They may say "this happened in broad strokes, but THESE are the real reasons behind xyz, and that's where our plot comes in." Like maybe Rey WAS taken over by Palpatine and that reframes the whole ending of TROS. But I doubt they'll remake the movies while the OT actors are all still alive and able to protest.

I'm fairly certain we'd never get a reboot, really. At least, not one during the Galactic Civil War.

If anything, maybe a soft reboot of the entire series, set in another era. Allow us to explore some similar themes, have similar characters, but all without undoing what came before. Really, I'd say that'll be sooner rather than later.

I highly doubt a reboot...it is too legendary to reboot, all things considered.

I don't think Star Wars will ever have a reboot of anything......besides maybe.......the life day special. :p

As far as Episode X, I believe it's possible to pull it off as a stand-alone film somehow. That would be interesting to see in my opinion. It could possibly be a launcher to start off Star Wars into something else for the future instead of having more trilogys.

i think that there is a fine line between a launching off point and turning into "non-starwars..." it would definitely be interesting to go into the new territory but there is only so much that can be parted with until you cannot call it "Star Wars" anymore

I don't think they will make an episode X. Probably they will just leave the skywalker saga alone and make other stuff, but you never know with Disney

I think it will depend on box office of future films. I don't think either will happen until they box office really starts to struggle.

If its going to be episode 10 then that needs to be quite a long way down the line as right I think right now regard for sequel trilogy is mixed so demand for episode 10 isn't that high. Plus you don't get the feeling the cast want to do it. If over the years the regard for the sequels changes like it has for the prequels I can see an episode 10 in about 15 years of so.

If the box office of star wars films continues to decline though, which i think is possible if they don't learn from the mistakes they are making and start getting their ducks in a row before they commission or announce films or TV shows, Then I can see them pushing the panic button in about 5-10 years and rebooting from scratch.

Episode VII was the closest thing we will get to a reboot.

Exactly, VII I would say was a soft reboot.

I don't particularly see LFL/Disney "rebooting" anything any time soon, as there is figuratively a galaxy of previously written material and backstories to canon characters and events that can be still written.
Take Rogue One for instance, which ranks in the top half of the best SW movies...

A reboot around 15 years from now? Not likely.

A reboot around 50 years from now? Most likely.

Once all the OT fans* literally die off, they are definitely going to reboot the entire franchise.

*By "OT fans" I mean the fans who saw the OT in theaters during it's original run in the 70s-80s.

    (obi-wan ghost)

    This is sad, but true.

It'll get rebooted just like Star Trek did, only the rebooted saga is going to be even more successful for Disney than the MCU is for them now. It'll become their most successful franchise ever.

They'll remove the majority of the core spiritual elements from the lore/mythology as well, in order to better mesh with the themes and agenda of the NWO that is currently in development.

    (emperor)

Also, it'll included dinosaurs. Lots of dinosaurs.

    Episode X for sure.

In 10 years we are going to see some new adventures of Rey Skywalker and her friends.

I wonder if she has new friends, probably they're going to make up new friends, there's is no way they bring back Rose, Poe and Finn I think.

    There's always Chewie.

Also all the droids, they're 4 now. Who needs humans when you have 4 droids and a wookie.

    Ahhh and some porgs too!:D

Probably a reboot. Those seem to be very popular and disney would love to change some things of episode IV, V, and VI

Hmm, I think an Episode X probably happens first. I think the next movie, whatever that is, won't be X though but who knows. A straight reboot is probably way down the road, probably when the apes have taken over.
