The past several months have brought a series of mixed signals regarding the status of the long-desired Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake. Fans were alarmed when gaming insider Jeff Grubb reported that the remake's development had stopped entirely, then partly reassured when reporter Jason Schreier disputed that claim. A few weeks later, a high-ranking Disney official seemed to indicate that the remake would still be made. Now, we finally have some news about the game directly from the developer.

IGN recently interviewed Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch regarding the company's history, current projects, and future plans. Naturally, the topic of the KOTOR remake came up, and Karch thankfully set the record straight:

Karch's statement is undeniably a breath of fresh air for fans of BioWare's classic game, many of whom have longed for a quality remake for years. After a disappointing period of bad news and uncertainty, it looks like work on the project is moving ahead. Now we just have to hope that no more major setbacks occur. Ideally, the game has finally made a permanent escape from development hell.

The remake was first announced in late 2021, but it's been quite the ride since then, with multiple doomsday reports around it while video game company executives try to put out the PR fire. Still, two-and-a-half years later, we still have no news on when this will be released or even a glimpse of how far along they are in development.
