More Ideas which I'll add here, I've been speaking to so many people and coming out with cool ideas!

    - Introduce the First Order differently! Biggest thing I found is not knowing the fate of the galaxy and who's who, and what. Have the First Order fleet appear out of nowhere and actually attack and take over the New Republic's planets, and get introduced into a war! The Galaxy is now just as confused as the audience is of this new threat!

    - State of galaxy, Solo or the scroll explains what happened after ROTJ. Say, after the destruction of the Death Star, it only took a few more years to destroy the remaining Empire and it's said that the remains have fled back into unknown space and have been largely accepted that they were defeated. However, maybe among Leia and generals they knew that maybe one day they may return! Let's say that have maybe had a good 10-20 years peace.

    - The First Order now have appeared out of nowhere and shocked the galaxy, caught the New Republic's fleet off guard and crushed them. The First Order's Armada could be very very advanced for it's time and the battle is in their favour! Instead of destroying planets shouldn't they capture them and use it for resources?

    - This gives the name 'Resistance' more purpose. Leia is desperate for help, and she has a feeling that this Fleet is controlled by the Dark side of the force, and the only way to stop it is with Luke's help. Making the plot more involved and interesting to finding Luke.

It almost seems that the entire plot of The Force Awakens borrowed heavily from A New Hope. I would have liked to have seen more unique background characters, better use of CGI, better costume design, and a plot that was a little more unique. The film is meant to be familiar, but it introduces us to a lot, without telling us very much.

I would have had kylo ren chop off reys hand. no one loses a hand in this film. I also would have made kylo ren a more menacing villain and i would have never had kylo ren take the helmet off.

I wouldn't have changed it too much...
Probably cut the Starkiller weapon subplot, and keep it a bit more focused on the search for Skywalker, i.e.
Better introduce that political state of the Galaxy, so the audience is aware of the Republic's lack of concern with the rising strength of the First Order...
Don't wipe out the republic senate and fleet in the first movie of the trilogy.

Or vice versa... it would be a bit weird seeing Rey lose her hand, and still "beat" Kylo Ren.

They filmed a scene with Chewbacca pulling Unkar's arm off while on Takodana... It was cut from the movie though.

I think a lot of people still have the wrong idea about Kylo Ren...

This trilogy is going to be all about his struggle between the light and dark side.

Agreed about the helmet. I actually though Rey chopped off Kylo's hand in the first viewing.

    Ditch Star Killer.
Leia should've been dead before the movie starts (Hence Kylo's turn - blames Han).
Rey is Han/Leia's daughter, presumed dead also.
Luke should've been held hostage by 'Snoke'.
Resistance formed during the movie after destruction of Coruscant (at beginning of the movie from device planted inside core).
All is lost at the beginning but they then discover that Luke is alive.
Movie is then about searching for Luke.
Introduced to Rey (who was ejected in escape pod when Leia's ship was destroyed in assassination) living on a remote planet.

They should have chosen you to make the movie Revanchist! Your version would have been WAY better than what we got.

I wudda had the battlestar Galactica turn up accidentally instead of finding Earth, bringing the Cylons hot on its heels, and joining force with the resistance! Imagine Cylon Centurions fighting alongside Stormtroopers and X-Wings escorting Vipers! What? Too far fetched? How about a planet sized weapon capable of destroying any other planet in the galaxy being blown up by just a handful of fighters?

Honestly there isn't much I would have changed. Except more Luke, and less repetitive "star killer" stuff. Oh, and maybe let's face the fact that any fan knows that Vader/Luke's damn saber was destroyed/lost in ESB. Duh. How could it call to Rey when it's lost??? Oh yeah.......plot holes. Moving on.

When asked how she got the saber, Maz should have said, "Luke entrusted me with it." Concise and doesn't raise questions.

Starkiller Base shouldn't have had that superweapon. The superweapon felt shoehorned into the movie for the sake of rehashing ANH.

Jakku should have been Tatooine. Jakku felt like Tatooine minus everything that made Tatooine cool (binary sunset, Jawas, Tuskens, etc.)

Ren saying grandfather when talking to the mask gave it away. J.J. Should have cut the grandfather word. If he just cut that, it would have made the part where Han yells Ben mire powerful. Perhaps, let the audience believe it could be Hux .

My ideal version is the version that's playing in the theaters right now. :)

+ create interesting characters that fit in the SW universe and have that magic chemistry together -> JJ exceeded every expectation I had.
+ Make it feel like the SW-universe we know (sets, designs, funny banter, etc) -> JJ exceeded every expectation I had.
    - Make me really care for the old OT cast - > JJ failed because I mainly cared because of nostalgia reasons and not so much because of good writing
    - a movie that could stand on its own and not feel like one big teaser

    Personally...

    - I might have removed the Rathtar sequence altogether and found another way to introduce Han to our heroes.
    - And I'd have been tempted to retain the Steamroller plot point. The Resistance having a way to batter through Starkiller's defences and "inject" their fighters behind enemy lines would have, for me, been preferable to the "destroy the bunker, lower the shield, allow the attack to take place" objective we have seen before. Then the aerial battle may have been more coherent with an obvious low point... and if that was the case, I would have had Han and Finn on a mission to rescue Rey, then realising there was a way to help the fleet from the ground when they reach that low point in the battle, and Han kind of sacrificing himself to enable that to happen.
