Not in the slightest. SotE followed smuggler Dash Rendar as he helped the Rebels at Hoth, chasing after bounty hunters to find Han, protecting Luke from assassins, and helping Lando rescue Leia from Coruscant. Xizor is the head of Black Sun and wants to take Vader's place as Palpatine's right-hand man.

Shadows of the Empire is not canon, but it's fun stuff and even George Lucas liked it, almost Princess Leia rape scene withstanding.

Lucasfilm has published many archival materials from the '70s and '80s that directly contradicts many things Lucas would say in the '90s on. One of the best examples is him claiming that Greedo always fired first and that the Special Edition was just clearing it up when the actual shooting script says the opposite.

We're on Greedo again? I've noticed that a lot of franchise (movie or television) creators tend to say one thing to audiences and show something else. I sometimes wonder if their comments are ways to tell audiences what they want to hear.

Greedo is a good example and what Lucas does is on a different level. Especially since lying to us about Greedo (and other Special Edition changes) are not what people want to hear.

Here are the information pieces on the Emperor, Governor Crispin Hoedaack, and the Sith Warriors which I ripped straight from The Star Wars comic series:

The question of "when did Lucas decide to make the Emperor a Force user" is a very interesting one. Especially because it's not the same as "when did Lucas decide to make the Emperor a Sith Lord"? It may be that for a time Lucas imagined the Emperor being a dark Force user who kept his skills secret even from Vader.

Before AOTC was released, it was definitely possible that Vader didn't know about Force Lightning until Palpatine used it on Luke.
