    I think it's going to happen on the first day of filming. You know, big headline "IX now in production!" and the cast will be listed in the press release. It's just my guess, tough.

    Would be cool. ;) But TLJ had Skellig footage filmed prior to principal photography, so they had something to work with. I doubt they will have anything this time around, but who knows.

    Benecio Del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran and I believe Laura Dern as well were all announced with the official "first day of filming" announcement for TLJ, so it'll probably be around the same time. TLJ had a whole video about it, but that was because they had already filmed at Skellig Michael months earlier, before TFA was even released, so it might not be as big of a day-and-date announcement as last time. But I would imagine before filming gets very far, they can only keep so many secrets.

    The cast for TFA was announced in April 2014.
    The cast for TLJ was announced shortly after TFA hit theaters.
    The cast for R1 was announced in August 2015.

    So the cast announcement for IX should come pretty soon.

    We should note ep IX casting information will be most significant ever.

    Just take this ...telling that Mark Hamill is cast tells a story for itself, it will be actually a spoiler, as there are people who think he will not be there and his story has ended.
    But also, example, a woman in its 40's which was already announced as a cast as "Mara", her appearance will be scrutinized and analysed .

    So, maybe there will be precendent and they will release partial cast and keep complete ep IX cast as a secret for some time?
