If you recall, the FO and R2 (who both got it from the Empire) had a map that would have led to the precise location, had it not been specifically absent. You’re thinking that one concentrated area, the one most relevant to the map, wore away with age? Like a dusty old book?
Luke removed it from the Empirial archives that the FO had exclusively? That's a pretty good trick :)

Luke Skywalker on laying eyes on the Millennium Falcon for the first time: What a piece of junk!
Han Solo: She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself.

You are right, it is definitely and inconsistency just like the parsecs comment.

Perhaps that missing area was never charted in the empire records, both the FO and R2 had the connecting areas but that area was never explored by the empire.
Perhaps it was charted thousands of years ago and then simply no one cared about it, same logic as the unkown regions.

He did say .5 past light speed.

I’m going to assume that light speed means something different in the Star Wars universe, unless the galaxy is really, really small and compact. Our galaxy is something like 100,000 light years across.

Who am I kidding though, I’m sure this is covered somewhere in the expanded universe.

Kylo Ren RE BB-8 in TFA: He's carrying a section of a navigation chart. We have the rest, recovered from the archives of the Empire, but we need the last piece...

It's a piece removed from a larger whole. That's already been established.

Where was it established? I'm not saying you are wrong but that quote could perfectly align with my theory.

We’re visually shown how the pieces fit together. There’s a dotted line showing the path to follow that begins in a known section and ends in the missing section.

This part isn’t really up for debate. It’s a map that leads to the first Jedi temple that someone deliberately altered to keep it hidden. My question: knowing what we know now, why?

Perhaps you are right or perhaps that line was added after they had both sections and calculated a route?
I repeat, i,m not saying you are wrong but how do you know for a fact that the map was deliberately altered by someone to keep it hidden? Is this stated anywhere?

Front shoulder is repaired, but back of the coat is completely intact as you can see when Rose stuns Finn and he flies into the escape pod. It should have been torn by Kylos light sabre.

I also thought it was Poes jacket, and therefore the colors were something to do with Poe.

I guess this is more of a continuity error than plot hole though :)

The lines are definitely visible in the same location before and after.
It’s absolutely deductive reasoning on my part. If a canon authority like Hidalgo confirmed it, I’m not aware. Someone might have removed it on accident at some point, but that doesn’t seem likely to me. Although copy/paste can get tricky sometimes. Clerical mistakes do happen :D

Ok I did some research and it seems Ahch-To was indeed in the unknown regions, perhaps the route mentioned is the one on your pic?

Ahch-To was a planet mostly covered in water, with numerous rocky islands blanketed with green trees located in the Unknown Regions.

The Unknown Regions, also referred to as Unknown Space and the Unknown Territories, was a region of the galaxy located in the galactic west beyond the Outer Rim. Largely unexplored throughout galactic history, it remained a mystery to space travelers and served as a source of tales and wonders.[1]

At the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Unknown Regions was regarded as an unexplored region that was separated from the galaxy by a labyrinth of solar storms, rogue magnetospheres, black holes, gravity wells, and things far stranger. Strange creatures were known to inhabit the void. This maze was considered impassable and many exploration ships and probe droids were lost trying to breach it. By the time of the Battle of Jakku, Imperial computers at the Jakku Observatory had found a safe route through this maze which involved taking multiple short hyperspace jumps through the maze. This journey took several months.[2]

It’s the route the remnants of the Empire took to the unknown regions to start building the First Order up. It’s covered in Aftermath: Empire’s End. Definitely a different map.

I didn’t read all 28 pages, but how is Finn flying a ship on Crait?! It was established 2 times in TFA that he couldn’t fly and needed a pilot. Because they picked up right where the other movie left off, you can’t say he learned in between films.
Also, why does no one seem to mourn Han, especially Leia, when he was killed hours before the start of this film. It’s like he never existed, outside of Luke asking where he was.

I'd say a speeder is pretty different than a starfighter.

I mean, I assume that you can drive a car, but would not be confident with a helicopter, correct?

As for Han, the cast talked about that a little before release. Basically, they never really have time to mourn him.

Most of their pilots are gone. They had to put Rose in one too. Kylo's strafing run blew up the hangar as they were scrambling the fighters after they had already lost so many in the initial escape in the first scene.

Probably the same reason no one stopped to mourn Admiral Ackbar. They're in the middle of a battle.

I think it is safe to say that everyone here has different notions of what one identifies as plot holes. Further debate will probably confirm this diversity in definition than actually establish what are the plot holes of this movie (or lack thereof).

I could be wrong, but it appears that while we can debate the label we would like to apply to the particular problems, the problems do exist. We can call it bad narrative construction, we can call it plot holes, or we can call it too many unanswered central questions and so forth. But at the end of the day, the issue is that these problems do exist.

Now some of you might feel that these problems can be solved by imaginative solutions that are left for the viewer imagination. After all, almost every movie has such elements. However, the trick in good storytelling is to make those "filling in the gaps" moments be processed by the viewer almost unconsciously. The very fact that there are people complaining about such "gaps" in the story, merely proves this movie did not succeed in doing that!

Of course, many of you might propose ingenious solutions to fill in the gaps. Perhaps the next Star Wars movie will do it too. But that does not mean that this particular movie failed to keep the viewer from noticing the moments in which they had to "fill in the gaps".

So I think rather than debating if something is a plot-hole or not, it might be more fruitful to think about what was wrong in the narrative construction that lead to the criticism. I could be wrong, just my thoughts :)

But...but...no more plot hole jokes. They’re fun!

Narrative construction jokes are difficult! More complicated.

Very well said, I'm just waiting for anyone to explain to me in an imaginative way how all ships on both fleets have the same top speed.

If I understand right, the FO did have faster ships that could catch up, but they were too small to be a credible threat and would have been blown away before doing any damage.

I’m still waiting for someone to come up with a known plot-hole from ANY high profile property that can’t be dismissed the same way everything else in this thread has.
