There are threads for debating people subjective opinions on story choices. This is thread about plot holes.
These movies series stand alone. This take places 25 years late and while they share the same characters it has a different narrative. Some members of the audience have chosen to believe that these characters are exactly the same as they were 25 ago. Now if this was a sequel that took place a year after the Return of the Jedi I'd understand, but this isn't plot hole in the narrative.

Maybe the cat and mouse isn't a perfect analogy.

    Maybe this works better.

Two people are playing chess. One player makes a subpar move.

Cue a spectator: "Plothole!" as he knocks over the chessboard, and collapses in a heap on the floor, satisfied in himself that he told the other spectators they were wrong for liking something.

Has it been established that he can read Hux mind? No, it hasnt. So that explanation is not valid right now.

Receiving information? How? Through a walkie talkie that we never see? Or are you saying that someone actually entered the throne room, with Rey hanging in the air, to tell him about the battle? Shouldnt Rey have heard it if thats the case?

He saw the future and projected it to his screen? No, i am not buying it.

For now, this is a plothole.

But these people aren't wondering. There's not speculation going on.

It's immediately flagged as a problem with the film.

Maybe I’m just taking it personally since it seems like you’re addressing the issue I raised. I never said TLJ is bad and people are wrong for liking it. The thread is about listing plot-holes and provided a definition that included gaps in logic that effect the plot.

Hux failed to capture the Resistance ships once already because he underestimated them. Then he immediately resigns himself to a situation where it could conceivably happen again, when there’s a reasonable alternative. That’s a pretty sizeable gap in logic and the effective crux of the plot.

One three second exchange of dialogue would have addressed it. Additionally, it would have underscored a theme of the narrative - while the good guys learn from their failures, the bad guys don’t and it contributes to their downfall. Make sense?

Well, you figured it out and didn't need to be told it in the film.

That's awesome, makes me like the film even more!

Sorry if you think I was addressing you personally- I'm definitely not, and I remember having lots of good discussions with you here before! :)

I'm more or less addressing the general idea that just because a character makes a poor decision, that doesn't make it a plot hole. Peple do weird, unpredictable stuff sometimes, and it doesn't always work out for them.

With the example you've listed- one of the themes of the film is overconfidence. We see this with Poe (a lot, actually) Finn in trusting DJ, Rey in thinking Luke would return with her, Snoke in trusting Kylo, etc. It's a prevalent theme in the film.

With Hux, he's got everything he needs. Sure, the Resistance is running, but the FO knows they're low on fuel because they caught them in the middle of an evacuation. Furthermore, they can track the Resistance through hyperspace. That's huge. The Resistance is going nowhere (at least, not until Holdo finds a loophole, which by the way is exactly why she needed to be pretty quite about it).

I guess this is a bit like the space age equivalent of a siege. Sure, in a siege you can pull out the siege engines and begin the attack immediately. Or you could let your enemy starve. I think both methods have their merits, and while one might ultimately work out better, I think in the end hindsight is 20/20. Saying one option is so irrational that it's unrealistic seems pretty... well, ironically it seems pretty overconfident in and of itself.

This isn't a plot hole any more than stormtroopers being a bad shot is a plot hole.

Also, Snoke clearly states that Hux is an idiot that's only there as a sycophant to administrate the FO military. Snoke literally admits: "You want to know why I keep... [that idiot] around?"

Good point. I suppose that's one way to address how a woefully outmatched force defeats a military behemoth - they're all incompetent halfwits that don't know what to do with all their shiny kill toys.

Still waiting on that silver bullet plot-hole example that fits all your rules and has no reasonable explanation :)

So for what I am understanding, If it is not visually spelled out on screen then it is a plot hole? If we don't see information being relayed then it couldn't have happened? If Snoke can use the force, and said he can see Kylo's mind but we haven't explicitly been told he can do it to others also then it couldn't happen?

Apparently. I can't think of any other reason why people would claim Rey going from being on the Supremacy to the Falcon is a plot hole other than forgetting that the Falcon can... fly.

just as a fun fact: those round creepy things that float around all over the destroyers are spy droid/cams.
so Snoke can see and hear and get information from all over the Supremacy and anywhere else they are deployed.
i thought that was pretty cool. (sorry for the terrible picture):

Hux said she took Snooks private shuttle. I bet it was luxurious.

Ah, so not only is it not a plot hole, but it's even explained. Good to know.

Yea... I guess since we don't see the walkers being deployed on Crait then it couldn't have happened either. Movies would be very long and boring if everything had to be visually shown and spelled out and couldn't be left to simple conclusions.

Yep, many explanations of how characters can know different things.
