    This is something to ponder:
C-3PO was built by Anakin Skywalker in his room and then essentially left behind as a discarded "toy" of sorts when he left.

We eventually see 3PO with his coverings later in the PT, but then in the OT we see that 3PO is only one of a number of IDENTICAL looking protocol droids of different designations and colors.

If C-3PO was an original design in a kids bedroom, how is it that there are suddenly so many copies of him? Is this ever explained anywhere?

Aimess surfing on Wookieepedia one day taught me that, in Legends, Anakin didn't build Threepio from scratch. He found a completely stripped down protocol droid and slowly refurbished it over time. Maybe we'll see that idea reintroduced, because it makes sense to me.

Alternatively, you might imagine that, if he DID build him from scratch, he modeled Threepio after other droids he's seen. Nobody has ever claimed that Anakin was the inventor of protocol droids, but surely he'd seen a bunch of them and could make an approximation of one with Threepio.

Maybe he bought C3PO as one of those partwork magazines like Build The Millenium Falcon that takes 2 years to collect all the parts and ends up costing nearly a thousand pounds! I'm sure they have mass media marketing in a galaxy far, far away!
