SPECULATION Why Luke Skywalker has to have had a child.

I am hoping Rey is Luke's, or still another character will turn out to be Luke's cough**Hux** cough..

I think Luke should have offspring. He is a lot like his father, passionate and a rule breaker. I think the story of Luke is better served as father who passes his knowledge to his children, who in turn rebuild the Jedi numbers. Plus, what else is the point of his voice over in the trailer? He is telling someone he is related to that the Force is strong in their family.

 

As long as he didn't use Jedi hand waving...

 

I'm ok with Luke having a kid. It would really deepen his character a lot. As the last Jedi who is resposible for rebuilding the Order, it is basically whatever he says, goes from now on in terms of code. I'm sure Obi-Wan and Yoda pop in every once in a while to have a chat, but to have him as a father would say that he has really laid his fingerprint on Jedi legacy, as he effectively changed the code. There is an intellectual argument for him doing so. The religious conservatism of the Jedi is what kept Anakin's relationship with Padme supressed. He couldn't be clear about his fear of losing her and his children because then he would be expelled from the Order. If they had accepted the relationship, maybe the Jedi would have considered the seriousness of the situation and dealt with it proactively. I mean, it is the Chosen One who had a Force vision of a key Senator dying. If Luke learned this backstory, he may have come to this conclusion and gone with a more progressive Jedi Order. Luke is basically a hippy these days, anyways.

(Alternatively, one could say Anakin could have phrased it better when speaking with Yoda, and could have actually trusted in others rather than himself to save her. But I digress.)

Who knows, Luke's mentor might have had kids too...

 

According to the rumors Finn doesn't have a last name (his name is derived from FN####). So if Rey does turn out to be Luke's daughter, and if Rey and Finn end up being a couple and have kids, then their kids will likely have Skywalker as their last name. In other words, JJ and LK may have set things up for the Skywalker name to continue into future generations, but in a non-straightforward fashion (the straightforward way would be for Luke to have a son).

Frankly I couldn't be happier if they do away with the whole "jedi are celibate" thing. That never made any sense to me at all, and is one of the worst parts of the prequels. I hope Luke has a kid. Hell, give him a bunch of kids, we love the guy, I want to see him go on! Sons and daughters of Skywalker.....the old jedi way of the prequels needs a retcon or a reformation...

Even if no new characters with the Skywalker name pop up there will always be money in milking the old OT through comics, videogames, cartoons and so on.
Never underestimate the power of the OT. Disney knows this to be true.

When you reach the end of the Star Wars saga, you can do so having one left standing, more than one left standing or none left standing.
Personally I think a definitive ending is none left standing. The Skywalker bloodline that was started with Anakin is ended and the Star Wars saga is over.

Anakin gets his last name from Smi Skywalker (his mom). So I could see Rey continue the Skywalker name as well as her children going forward. I do like the idea of Finn being the child of Luke as well. Kyle Ren feels like he is the offspring from Leia and Han. I guess we will find out as to who will be the next generation of Skywalker's come December 18th.

 

I would really love Luke to have a child so that the Skywalker name would live on but I really would like it if said child was non-human. Having a Twi'Lek or a Torguta girl being a Skywalker would be awesome just as I would love to see Luke have a Nikto or a Rodian son. In a universe that has so many alien species and many of them being quite pleasant to the eye, I find it a little boring to see each and every Skywalker be human. I know a Lamproid or an Ithorian might be pushing the limits a little but there are many cool species in the SW universe that I think would make awesome Skywalkers.

 

I don't see how Finn gets the Falcon when he does not know how to pilot a ship. Finn will be skilled in many things but flying does not appear to be one of them. First he has to rescue Poe because he needs someone who can fly a TIE fighter. Second, in the new clip we see he tells Rey they need a pilot for the Quad Jumper. It is obvious at this point he does not know how to fly so the likelihood he ends up with the Falcon is small and I would consider that rumor false.

 

Luke is not you old ways Jedi. He did things his way and still brought down the Empire. You think he sat around and watched the PT?

I'm at least 90% certain Rey is his daughter.

 

Luke may follow the Jedi order and not have had any children. However according to most of the leaks it leans towards Rey being Lukes daughter.
