Your favorite things about each character in TFA

han solo: "Ben!"

- can't wait to watch this on blu-ray and cry for the 43rd time

 

Ok, gave it some thought and this is what I came up with...

Rey - It's the little things she does. After turning down Han's job offer, and he says "it's to bad, Chewie kinda likes you", I loved that little nose crinkle she does as she turns and the sun shines in her face. Daisy Ridley is just adorable. Period.

Finn - When he and Poe are first taking in the corridor and Poe states "we're gonna do this!" Finns unsure response of "yeah?" was perfect. It totaly sets the tone for his character for the rest of the movie, nervous and unsure, but brave and always ready to do the right thing.

Poe - "We're gonna do this!"(with that grin). I was pretty at ease at that point in the movie, as any anxiety had disappeared during the opening village scene. But that line for me was not just a demonstration of Poe's character, but it was like a message to the audience about the Star Wars experience they are about to receive.... get ready for one hell of a ride folks, because "we're gonna do this!"

Han - "I never ask that question until after I've done it." Sums up Han Solo to a tea.

Leia - "Don't do that". Han - "Don't do what?". Leia - "Anything!" Vintage Leia!

Kylo Ren - "The Droid... stole a freighter?" Love the fact that he allows sarcasm and a hint of humour to seep through that dark and ominous persona.

Hux - The look in his eyes when he delivers the speech. Gotta admit that it was a bit disturbing.

Chewie - Every reaction he had he or Han were questioned. Finn asks, "Wasn't he a war hero" Chewie give a shrug and light growl. Han ask, "Have I ever let you boys down before?" Kanjiklub replies, "Yeah, twice" to which Chewie nods in approval. Just loved all those types of subtle moments with Chewie.

Snoke - There wasn't much here to be taken by. But when Hux tells him the Resistance most likely now has the droid, he replies "Then resistance must be destroyed before they get to Skywalker" When he says this, his tone seems to change slightly and he looks off into the distance. That one line conveys one thing, imo; That Snoke is scared to death of the possibility of Luke returning. So much in fact, that he's willing to let the droid and the map be destroyed along with his enemy, even if it means he'll never be able to find Luke himself.

BB-8 - Not sure why, but I just love this part. When Rey is fixing his antenna, and after asking "where do you come from?", and replies to his answer "Classified? Really?" BB-8 lets out a confident and cocky high pitched beep that sounds like he says "Yip!" Lol. Was just so appropriate and subtle.

Phasma - When Han asks Finn "Is there a garbage shoot? A trash compactor?" Phasma snaps her head up and looks straight at Han in what has to be surprise and shock. Would have loved to seen the look on her face at that moment. Lol

 

i meant to post this earlier, but Phasma's suit is apparently plated with chromium ("salvaged from a Naboo yacht once owned by the Galactic Empire's Emperor Palpatine... a symbol of past power." http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Phasma)

doesn't say whether chromium is susceptible to corrosion, but given it's used as a currency and for royalty, i'm guessing it's more resilient than that!

the first time i watched the movie, i thought Mitaka was toast when he came up sweating and nervous. it was frankly shocking that Ren took out his rage on the console instead. in terms of interesting character quirks: for all his awfulness, Ren destroys machinery rather than men (at least at first, though i'm pretty certain Mitaka survived ~ whereas lieutenants under his grandpa were far less fortunate).

as much as people joke about the maintenance bill Ren must rack up on these fits, the loss of human life would be more costly ~ hahaha.

 

What struck me about Kylo's outburst was the sheer anger of it. But it wasn't the quiet fury of Vader, who as you said, probably would've offed Mitaka for being the bearer of bad news. It was like the temper tantrum of a toddler. His body posture was completely unrestrained, his motions repetitive; by the end he's reduced to swinging the lightsaber like an unwanted toy. And then he goes right back to the conversational tone afterwards. That scene cemented Kylo's character for me.

 

someone his age/size and with his kind of power (both in terms of command and the Force) being out of control is very disturbing.
and yet it's clearly a venting mechanism (just like the flanges on his saber).
the fact that he can pull back from it so quickly shows that he does this on purpose (or with purpose, even if it's just subconscious).
that kinda makes it even more terrifying.

 

I know we all giggled at Kylo's outbursts, but I know for me, it was that uncomfortable, "I'm a little disturbed here and don't know how to express it" kind of giggle.

 

i didn't giggle ~ i was just disturbed ~ hahaha.
though i did giggle at his joke about the freighter ~ because, weirdly, Kylo Ren is kinda funny in his snark.

 

"They're obviously skilled as committing high treason." He definitely got Daddy's snark and Mommy's sass.

 

Rey: sweet, innocent, confident, sensitive, friendly, compassionate. Favorite scene with Rey has to be her trying on the pilot's helmet after eating. She looks so innocent and carefree in that scene, yet lonely.
Finn: nervous, anxious, selfish in the beginning but turned to care for his new friends. I loved the scene where they were rescuing Rey and when Finn and Rey hug he asks her how she got away...
Poe: sarcastic, confident, aggressive and friendly. When he first see's BB8 after returning to the base; priceless!
Kylo Ren: angry, uncertain, fragile, powerful, inner struggle. I can't narrow any scene down with Kylo Ren. My favorite, period, stop.

 

I really liked Finn's basic idea(our side who was a storm trooper). I wish he would be described as a soldier child, and the movie would make his characteristic in terms of PTSD and pain.

 

me too! on the one hand i loved how strong he was to just embrace his choice to defect and move forward, but i would have like to have seen him struggle a little more. i think the three principal characters are an interesting contrast in how they handle their trauma:

• Finn: he's overcome it! he's grabbed onto his new life with both hands
• Rey: she's a little uncertain, holding onto the past, but trying to move forward in spite of it.
• Ren: yeah, he's not doing too great. more one step forward, two steps back at this point.

 

Rey-"STOP taking my haaaannnd!!!" & her serene facial expression when Leia tells her "may the force be with you."
Finn-"Yep, I'm with the resistance....(looks around and whispers like it's a big secret)...I AM WITH the resistance."
Kylo-temper tantrums....hilarious
Poe-to Kyo..."it's really hard to understand you with all the apparatuses..."
BB-8-staring back and forth between Finn and Rey trying decide if he should help them.
Hux-bratty sibling rivalry exchanges with Kylo
Han-"Can I try that?"....after using the bow blaster...."I like this thing."
Chewy-Nodding in agreement when Han says "have I ever lied to you" and everyone passionately says, "YES!"
Leia-"Rey, may the force be with you." & how she stares down 3PO when he interrupts her reunion with Han
Snoke-"Go, oversee preparations." -to General Hux. He looks defeated and almost sad. I was curious.
Phasma-when she gets punched by Chewie
