Your favorite things about each character in TFA

Kylo's outbreak you're talking about reminds me of my grandpa on soccer ground when the lines man made a wrong decision (Bring me that son...!!!). I also loved the scene when the two soldiers just passed by hearing Ren screaming .

Hilarious!!!

 

Rey: Her mix of toughness, intelligence, naïveness, vulnerability, innocence, with just hints of inner anger/darkness etc. She's just a really likeable/sympathetic character overall. And yes, the little things that Daisy does (smiling like a child when she puts the helmet on, her adorable nose wrinkle on Takonada, the fact that they actually let her cry/be scared, etc. Also, her beating Kylo at his own mind game (despite seemingly being helpless/at every conceivable disadvantage at the time (and Kylo being creepy as heck) was fantastic.

Finn: The guy is probably the gutsiest character in this movie (and that's saying something). The fact that he was raised from birth to be part of this evil organization, but unlike Kylo, didn't let it corrupt him into something ugly. He had the courage to say "no I'm not doing this, it's horrible." And, despite just wanting to flee, he still sticks his neck out time after time after time to try and help others (including fighting a battle he had to know that he couldn't win to try and help his friend). Plus his interactions with Rey, Poe, Han, BB-8, etc were great.

Kylo: His strange mix of power yet weakness. Being scary and creepy, but also rather pathetic/pitiful at times as well. The fact that, unlike Vader who kept his emotions mostly bottled up, Kylo is psychotically unstable and lashes out like an angry teenager when he doesn't get his way. And the whole idea that "he wants to be Vader, is trying to be Vader, but has no clue of how to actually do that effectively," is really interesting to me.

Han: His interactions with the new cast were great, and his last scene was a great conclusion to the character arc started in ANH.

Poe: He's just awesome. His affectionately greeting BB-8 as "my little buddy" at the Resistance base, and then giving Finn at big old bear hug, was adorable.

BB-8: I love how much emotion that they give that little rolling piece of metal, it was great. My favorite was his "back and forth" head turn when trying to decide whether or not to tell Rey and Finn where the base was.

Hux: His rivalry with Kylo was fun. They're like two teenagers competing for Poppa Snoke's approval. Also, he does "fanatic" really well.

Phasma: Her head jerk when she hears about the trash compactor, also she looks cool.

Snoke: The guy looks like he's "been through some stuff," and he's such a cypher right now.

Chewie: He's just awesome in general, this may be my favorite depiction of him on-film.

Leia: She's suffered so many tragedies in her life, and it STILL hasn't broken her.

Maz: She fun, and has Chewie for a "boyfriend."

 

It's close at least, that's for sure. Also, her putting on the X-Wing pilot helmet and smiling as well.

 

Rey: I can't pick just one. I adore Daisy and relate to Rey so much. Possibly when she uses the Force to pull the lightsaber from the snow and ignites it for the first time.

Finn: " Stay calm. Stay calm. I was talking to myself."

Poe: When he sees BB-8 and Finn again.

BB-8: Thumbs up.

Kylo Ren: Not sure really. I guess how he's scared of his Dad.

Hux: The smug face he gives Kylo Ren.

Phasma: Her reaction when Han suggests a trash compactor to dispose of her.

Snoke: His theme. As well as " We shall see. We shall see." When Ren makes it clear he won't be seduced.

Han: " Listen big deal, you have another problem, women always figure out the truth. Always."

Leia: " When did that ever help? And don't say the Death Star."

Luke: When the hood comes down and you see him for the first time. I literally squealed with so much excitement.

Maz: " I assume you need something. Desperately. Let's get to it."

Chewie: His nod to Rey at the end.

R2-D2: When he wakes up.

C-3PO: Leaning his introduction.

 

the way Ren flinches away from Han on the bridge was a huge turning point for me in his character.
even though Rey had already exposed his essentially fearful nature, realizing he's scared of his father was so much worse.

i love how jaded Maz is about Han's coming and going and his shenanigans!
same thing when she refuses to help him and tells him "go home!"
i hope we get to see Chewie and Maz in a scene together in viii ~ hahaha

 

Ohmygosh, he DOES have a bit of a smart mouth, doesn't he? How perfect is that!

We got some of the best, most on-point Han Soloisms ever in this movie, don't you guys think?

"So, it's bigger." Hahaha...

 

Kylo: "You are so right."

"The Droid, stole a freighter?"

"Anything else?"

Yeah, you can definitely hear that Han and Leia-isms in him there.

 

I just watched the film again the other day, and for some reason it was the first time I took notice of it. When Han steps right up to Ben, he flinches and takes a half step back. Kylo's overall personality was so carefully crafted by the writers, and it showed. They ensured that he expressed character traits from his two very well known parents through out the film. The fact that Han & Leia's sense of humour, sarcasm, and snark was allowed to seep through his dark and ominous exterior was perfect and presented extremely well.

 

for me that's the moment all of his other behavior just suddenly makes perfect sense (his snark, his inability to stay on task, his rage fits, etc.).
he may be a grown man, but he's still that frightened child Han & Leia lost all those years ago.

it really is a brilliantly layered performance.

 

I got that right away actually. He's basically a scared and angry young man trying desperately to "play a part." He wants so badly and is trying so hard to be Vader, but he clearly has little to no idea of what Vader was really like and what he was all about.

"You are afraid, that you will never be as strong as Darth Vader!"

It only takes Rey one line, to cut right to the heart of what Kylo is really all about.

It sure was. Another moment I thought about soon after posting that sticks out is during the destruction of the Hosnian system when you see Ren staring out of the window of the Finalizer, very reminiscent of Darth Vader. I can't help but, think of when Vader did the same thing on the bridge on Endor when Luke turns himself over.

Haha. I do too.

• Phasma: Armour, I guess. Wasn't a fan of how this character was handled so far, let's hope she has a better role in Episodes VIII and IX
