Yeah, Salvatore did a good job. The scenes from the film are more developed in the book and it really does make the film seem better. Especially the love story as it doesn't go from Anakin pining over the girl he knew 10 years ago to "I'm deeply, madly in love with you" in the blink of an eye (when I first saw the film I thought Anakin had used the force on her to get her to fall that fast! LOL). I read the novelization for the Force Awakens, and I liked it, although I read it so fast I couldn't tell you much about it today.

I'm not new to the books, canon or Legends, but if I was: what's the best canon story (book or comic) to act as a starting point?

I've toyed with the idea of reading all the canon stuff chronologically from the pre-TPM stuff to TLJ, but are there better books or comics to check out first?

I don't think you necassarily have to read in chronological order. For books, I'd recomend Thrawn and Bloodline as a starting point, and for comics, I'd recomend the main Star Wars series and either of the Darth Vader series' or Darth Maul series'.

Can you guys suggest a Jaina Solo reading list? I bought the Black Series figure and realized how little I know about her. So I watched a few videos on You Tube and was like I should read up on Jaina. Thanks for any suggestions.

Then I'm gonna reread Kenobi (JJM) I was very busy when it first came out and didn't give it enough attention
Thinking of reading Crucible, which got washed out by the announcement of Ep7

Well, she appears from ages 14-16 in the Young Jedi Knights series. She's a main character in all of the novels from that chronological point forward, I think.

Right now I'm reading Star by Star, and when I'm done I'll read the hand of Thrawn duology.

You doun't want to read those books.. you want to read a different one, from the heart...

We need not sell the novels, it's a diff'rent one, and look, Read along,
    read along,
    "...
A second blast ripped apart through space, forced through the air from above, where the younger of their siblings gathered with Alexander, and into the Sith’s apprentice, who’d stepped up from where he’d been pinned, and charged forward, to join in with his master, again.
The children’s Force blast ripped and tore the ground away, and sent the Sith apprentice twirling and soaring off the cliffside of this part of the mountain estate, far flung and away, what for.
“Fools!” she screamed at them all, the Sith, and she thrust her palm toward the children, high above, and lightning snapped at her fingertips, and she screamed out in pain, and fell forward, when Caora’s blaster rifle shot took her clean in the back, from ten paces.
The pain set in, then. Eleven were gathered. Yuna howled, and Jabu forgot his name, and screamed like a newborn. Alexander wanted to cry, and covered her ears, and Jason howled in agony, toward the skies, that churned up, clouds swirling and building, colored lightning striking far and fast, across the skies, what for.
Caora screamed out, and joined in his brother’s moan and howl, as though it was ripping itself free of him. The storm in rain started down, drenching them, all for.

I finished up re-reading those old Lando Calrissian Adventures novels and while they are great/fun science fiction novels they are not very good Star Wars novels. I still enjoy them though, those early EU writers had to make everything up as they went along, they didn't have a huge established canon and encyclopedias full of characters/technology/aliens/locations/etc to pick and choose from as they pleased. Or even that many Star Wars movies to reference for inspiration/information.

I think I'm going to read either Revan or The Force Unleashed next, I've been wanting to read both for a long time and haven't gotten around to it. I have several others stacked over there I need to get to. From A Certain Point Of View, Tales From The Empire, Tales From The New Republic, Death Troopers. And I have other non-Star Wars reading going on and queued up.

I personally like it so far. But they have mixed reviews and I don't think they are necessary to read.

I do wanna check out Lords OF THE Sith also :)

I just started reading Death Troopers the other day, and it's interesting. More of a horror type Star Wars book and it's actually pretty cool if you're into sci-fi horror like Alien. I gotta say though, it feels kind of out of place from the Legends timeline. It's pretty weird haha.

I haven't read many Star Wars novels, I think my approach is going to be buy anything relatively cheap and second hand from the pre Disney era. So it's likely to be a rather scattered approach. Anyone else tried this? It'll likely mean I won't read series in order org complete series.
I did buy the novelisations of the original trilogy new and have read a New Hope so far. Interesting experience it's weird it's so close to the movie but its like a good aid to thinking about or dwelling on the film/story.

    ALREADY READ:

    -Truce At Bakura
    -The Thrawn Trilogy
    -Jedi Academy Trilogy
    -I, Jedi
    -Hand of Thrawn Duology
    -Vector Prime
    -Dark Tide: Onslaught
    -Kenobi
    -Attack of the Clones (Novelization)
    -Revenge of the Sith
    -Disciples (Nu-Canon)
    -Rebels: New Dawn (Nu-Canon)

    TO READ:

    -The rest of NJO
    -Legacy of the Force
    -Fate of the Jedi
    -Outbound Flight
    -Choices of One
    -Jedi Apprentice
    -Jedi Quest
    -Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
    -Wrath of Maul
    -Maul: Lockdown
    -Darth Bane Trilogy
    -Dawn of the Jedi
    -Plagueis
-Clone Wars Multimedia Books (Shatterpoint, Cestus Deception, etc.)
-Dark Lord Novels (Labyrinth of Evil/Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader)
    -Ahsoka (Nu-Canon)

I don't know if comics count, but I've read almost all of the 90's era comics like Dark Empire, Crimson Empire, Shadows of the Empire, and Tales of the Jedi. I'm reading the 2006 KOTOR series now (and it's nothing short of awesome. It's like Star Wars meets "The Fugitive").

I've been doing this exactly. Funny thing about the Nu-Canon, plenty of people threw out a lot of their old Star Wars books around the 2015 mark. Now, they're available everywhere from Value Village to Half-Price Books. Almost my entire shelf is comprised of paperback/hardcover books I've gotten from thrift stores for $4 each.

It's a dream come true for EU fans.

I finally got around to the Aftermath Trilogy (after giving up on the first book back when it came out but deciding to give it another try) but it was so bad it's left me not wanting to read any EU for a while. To the point where I didn't even bother with Solo and I still have From A Certain Point Of View as well as Revan on the shelf waiting to be read. Maybe in another month or so I'll be able to stomach a Star Wars book again.

Since you have it, I’d recommend easing back into with a few From A Certain Point of View stories. My favorite are Master & Apprentice, Added Muscle, Eclipse, The Trigger and The Angle. And if I had to pick one of them i’d go with Added Muscle. It’s quick, funny and about the most bad ass bounty hunter in the galaxy. Audiobook note- It’s narrated by Mad Men’s Jon Hamm!

Good call, I'm a big fan of short story collections in general and have really enjoyed the Star Wars "Tales From" series. I take it from your comment they can be read out of order and not necessarily need to be read cover to cover like "Tales From Jabba's Palace" or something right?
