Things you really really don't want in TFA

    - Luke to be evil, not a band idea in context but would negate the original trilogy
    - Luke to have children, if all powerful and scared of his own power he is, children he would not
    - A death star, I think there'll be a superweapon, but please no death star
    - Too many force users, 4-5 maximum
    - Goofy characters, C3PO is the daftest we should ever see

I'll play this game because who doesn't love a Top 5 list!
    1. R2 flying
    2. Kylo just being some crazy guy with no real purpose to his being evil
    3. Long or multiple flashbacks (I'll take a brief one with Rose but if it's going to be a long, drawn out thing or have multiples, not good)
    4. A hand or lightsaber floating in space
    5. Hearing that Lando died in the Battle of Jakku

    What about BB-8 flying? lol

    Here are my Top 5:

    1. Darth Vader/Anakin and/or Palpatine being resurrected or having to have been cloned without the protagonists' knowledge (not a very original idea in my opinion).
    2. The Darth Plagueis character showing up without some well-thought-out and believable logical explanation.
    3. An overabundance of references to the OT (I want to see new ideas come up).
    4. Boba Fett just for the sake of having Boba Fett in the new films.
    5. Jar Jar's bones just to please those who utterly despise that character (I wasn't a big fan of that character either but come on, let's move on; this is the ST now and there's not need to reference him in any shape or form. Let's leave that in the past).

Honorable mention: a felling of placing practial effects in very high regards to the point that things really show out to be completely fake and unbelievable thus the emphasis of having practical effects backfiring (think puppets on a string with the strings being so obvious). It's 2015 now, let's see the mix of practical effects and CGI output realism as best as it can get.

    I want to play!

    - dorky CGI gag characters
    - a main character dying in the first film (i don't mind one kicking it, all wars have casualties. I just think its too soon.)
    - the lightsaber of Anakins/Luke being special
    - Leia going crazy with power
    - a storyline that doesn't fit with the other films continuity - nothing that wasn't explained before all of a sudden becoming important, it has to fit (none of this midiclorians)

R2 flying was atrocious. It looks utterly ridiculous.

Hand in space won't happen surely

I think I agree with most of the above to be honest. Don't think we're getting clones tbh but wouldn't rule it out due to kamino's capabilities

I didn't really think much of it. I wasn't really bothered by it (IMO it demonstrates the many capabilities R2-D2). Besides, he only did it one time in Episode II and once in Episode III as well.

    1. Lense Flare
    2. Ben Quadinaros
    3. I really hope that Maz Katana's character is well done. She seems like a pivotal character and her believability is crucial.
    4. No more Coruscant
    5. Clones of any kind.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Coruscant show up at some point in the sequel trilogy. I feel that showing the capital planet, this de-facto central point of the galaxy, is important to the story and I think that the blend of this planet making an appearance and capturing the spirit of the OT (as the VF article puts it) can be done.

That's one of my qualms about the OT actually, that they never show this central point of governance in the galaxy. They don't show the Emperor until ESB (and it was via hologram) and they make references to a senate in ANH yet we don't get too see where any of these things are located at (and no, that added scene of Coruscant celebrating the fall of the Emperor doesn't count lol). [and yes, I understand that this was probably due to the technological limitations at the time for this to be possible, my point remains]

Yeah I agree that there should be a central place where the government operates out of, but it should be a different planet in my opinion. By ROTS the whole planet of Coruscant was boring to me from over familiarization I guess. Although it could be interesting to go back and see a Coruscant ravaged by war. Like a post apocalyptic City Planet

I think the above from PT makes me like the OT even more.

When you watch it and are like "yes I too remember the clone wars" etc etc

With the exception of Jar Jar, not everyone loves and hates the same things. I personally loved it when R2 flew. I have no problems with Plagueis cheating death. He devoted his life to that end and even Palpy wasn't sure he was actually gone. I know, the book is not canon. I want to see that Fett lives. Jar Jar bones would make me laugh. Hand in space, hate it, but it wouldn't ruin the movie for me. I'm going to try and sit back and watch it like a kid, no expectations, just the way I saw ANH way back when I was about 4.

We had lens flare in OT so ya , we wont get that wish of zero lens flare.

Dorky CGI characters? I think we got that with Maz Kanata.

    Ok to me top NOOOOOOOOOO's

1.Cheesy PT Anakin/Padme romance (Even though there was cheesy romance between Han and Leia)
2.Hand flying in space (I can deal with Anakin's lightsaber flying in space but not Luke's hand. Seeing the hand would burn!)
    3.Luke having a kid
4.Darth Vader resurrected (only briefly in a flash back)
5.Too many force users (Luke, Leia, Rey, Finn, Maz, Ren, Uber. Should be the limit, other then padawans in the flashback)

    1-floating hand in space
2- luke's/anakin's old lightsaber as a key plot point
3-clones of or resurrected dead OT/PT characters
4-characters created just to sell toys
5-no new jedi, i want to be at least a hand full of them. one of the last things yoda tells luke as he is dying is to pass on what he has learned. with the empire not being gone, i hate to think none of the happy ending in ROTJ was real. i hope some good things have happened for the heroes in the last 30 years.

    1) Han and Leia never had kids had a short fling 30 years ago thats it.
    2) Luke has wasted the last 30 years of his life guarding a tomb.
    3) 30 years of non stop war. Realistic yes but it makes me sad for the OT characters.
    4) No new jedi order. The jedi order should consist of less than a dozen knights though, it shouldn't be massive.
    5) No EU nods, or nods that are meaningless. Call me names but I liked the EU I understand they dumped it. But they can include EU characters. Example they could could have a jedi named Kyle Katarn or Kyp Durron. If Luke has/had a wife she better be Mara Jade, there is no need for dumb name changes. They don't need to keep the character backstories.
I know its only supposed to be 5 but I've got one more:
    6) Be careful with the politics, I love politics, I am in the process of getting my Phd in poli sci and I teach it at the university level, however it should be relevant to the Star Wars background story whatever they decide that is and not a ham handed American political message that makes half the audience roll their eyes. I think JJ did a good job with this in Star Trek even though I am not a big fan of his take on Star trek.

    1) No cute species... I have seen enough of ewoks and jar jar

    2) Space Monsters... Do we really need a ship running from some monster?? It worked in ESB leave it there

    3) Don't bring back Vader... Would kill all that rotj stood for with the exception of him in a dream etc

    4) No politician back room deals... Who cares...

    5) The new bad uber to be something more menacing than VADER... Anything less will be less than the best

Come on JJ don't mess it up

    In no particular order:

    - Kylo Ren as a bland one-dimensional villain.
    - Excessive OT references that interfere with the flow of the story.
    - A complete disregard for PT events (there's a point where it just gets silly).
    - Luke having only a few seconds of screen time.
    - Floating hand in space. Lightsaber I can deal with, just not a 30 year-old severed hand.
