    I'm wondering if the reason he has a red arm is to distinguish who he was. Like for example maybe the first order owned him for some reason.

    Just a guess. I'm curious for the reason he has it. Or it could just be somethimg funny that happened and all the was around was that arm to attatch.

    JJ and people from the arts department have said at multiple occasions that they wanted to give the movie a lived-in feel. I think C3PO's original arm has been replaced and there is no underlying significance. Young Anakin built him from spare parts about 70 years ago, and many parts will no longer be available.

    i don't think they will give us one. In the movie universe, C3PO getting a replacement arm is not going to matter much in a cold/hot war setting. In fact i think not even acknowledging it is even better. If they treat it as something so trivial as to not mention it, it really does allow the audience to get a sense that....IT HAS BEEN 30 YEARS.

    It´s nice that JJ and his Team go the extra mile and continue with the theme of having C-3PO have changing parts which emphasizes the "lived-in" feeling.

    I mean, we had 3PO in:
    E I - Naked, without plating
    E II - His grey plating
    E III - His full golden appearance
    EIV - Dirty, dented and his right silver foot
    EV - Blown to pieces
    EVI - His color dulled and washed out
    EVII - A red rusty arm

    Man....What will they think of next.... :p

    it's official now it has been seen in the BTS video but the 3PO on display here is a cosplayer called Gordon Tarpley (an amazing one!) not an official costume, but apparently the first one to be seen with the new arm
