SPECULATION Domhnall Gleeson in TFA

I think that Gleeson is a descendant of Tarkin and....Skywalker. He's Luke's son, and Tarkin's grandson. Leanne Best is Tarkin's daughter (check her out - she really resembles Peter Cushing) and Luke's wife/girlfriend/lover. That is why Gleeson is so easily able to infiltrate the Empire, because he is a Tarkin, and the old Grand Moff is still a beloved figure there. Luke Skywalker and Ms. Tarkin (Leanne Best) raised their son to despise the Empire and war, and perhaps all three came to dislike the increasing underhandedness of the rebellion/alliance. So they launched a plan to end the proliferation of superweapons on both sides, and this involved sending their only son undercover within the Empire.

Perhaps the reason Gleeson spends much of the movie chasing Finn is because Finn has information that will disrupt the careful balance of Gleeson's plan to destroy both (The Republic/ Rebellion's and The Empire's) superweapons. It's not that Finn is bad (quite the opposite) it's just that he is inconvenient and could destroy years worth of careful planning...

 

i did say that there may be a Tarkin; i'm just going off the latest scoop

as for having kids at 64, stranger things have happened! hell, Charlie Chaplin popped his last kid out at 73! even my own grandfather was in his 50's when he had his last kid! suffice to say, i think Tarkin could have definitely had children in Gleeson's age group; perhaps Gleeson is the baby of the family and disenfranchised with the Empire because of it. at any rate, i'd much rather see a Tarkin child than a clone, or weird flashback scenario.

You could have a point I read somewhere that Mara was taken from her parents at a young age she did remember a falling star globe as a faint memory, Tarkin has had a few relationships since then you never family might be right around the corner do you see the likeness?:

Glendon's character has been an enigma. If it does turn out that he is a Tarkin it will be cool.

 

Being related to one of the most feared imperials would be a good start for him.

I guess I just don't understand making every character be related to a past character. Gleeson as a Tarkin seems like an unecessary and weird decision unless he's playing Tarkin in a flashback. Why not create a new villain? Screams fan fiction to me to have all these characters including the villains be related to past characters. Max Von Sydow better not be playing Uncle Owen's long lost brother from Cliegg's previous marriage.

I agree. A Tarkin descendant seems... forced. Only there for the sake of relating to someone.

 

Lazy is the word I would use to describe it. With the heroes it would make sense to have one be a descendant of the OT heroes because that's how they all meet up. But with making a villain a Tarkin descendent, couldn't we hate him just as much if he was not some secret descendent of a guy who dies 35 years ago in ANH? I feel you could have davy johnson use the super weapon and it would seem more organic and we would dislike him just as much. I would argue that Rey or someone being the Solo kid makes us instantly root for her regardless of who she is. If it's not a Solo kid then it would be more difficult to have that feeling right off the bat.

 

The people who hoped for a genuinely new generation of characters would be happy. It's possible that Gleeson isn't the one with the Tarkin armband and we literally have no direct descendants of OT characters also. Gleeson might just be a down right evil scumbag killing machine with a name all to himself. I just get the feeling he'd tend to be a Tarkin over being a Skywalker.

 

I think it's either Skywalker or nobody for Gleeson. What plot element does being the descendent of Tarkin satisfy? That's my question. It'd be making him Tarkin for the sake of making him Tarkin. At least if he's a Skywalker it adds intrigue to him being an imperial officer and possibly being redeemed at some point.
