It's less a matter of "dragging it on," as leaving yourself open to revisit it in the future. (Again this is a serialized multigenerational Saga that will likely go on for a very long time...) By closing off the bloodlines, you end any possibility of taking up future generations of Skywalkers and Solos. That's not good business, or even proper use of drama.

Nobody felt Game of Thrones was "dragging it on" when they were still dealing with the Starks and the Lannisters in episode 8, or episode 23, or episode 39. Not every episode focuses directly on those families, but they are always there to be revisted and their conflict reborn. Again, we are living in a new entertainment consumption paradigm, and the old movie sequel or trilogy structure is giving way to a more serialized episodic format. That's what is happening with Star Wars.

He is... the planet hasn't been confirmed/ruled out...
    Rumors have stated
the flashback sequence may be set on Endor... or the graverobber may be on Endor... as for Warwick... he may not be playing an Ewok... I'm hoping for a Willow/Star Wars crossover.

What Willy is trying to say is that Warwick Davis doesn't have to be playing Wicket (see his cameo in Episode I for example)

All of these posts are fantastic and entirely plausible....

    BUT

I don't think he's Luke's kid. That's just me going of what I was told in the beginning, and I could be wrong, but I'm going with my gut that he is Han and Leias kid.

Not that movies have to follow reality, but isn't is super rare for two dark hair people to have a red head kid? Especially if the mother had no red headed parents?

I think it's possible. My parents both have dark brown hair (and both sets of grandparents) and I'm blonde. I was almost white-haired as a child. Two blondes can't have a dark haired child though. It depends on whether you have all recessive genes or a dominant and a recessive. It's the passing on of the recessive gene that results in lighter hair, eye color, etc... Anyway, because movies are visual, I doubt they would have hired a red head to play Han and Leia's kid. I think they would have gotten someone with similar coloring at least. Because it's hard to match structural features to unrelated people, so, for casting, they would go for someone with similar hair color, etc... I'm blonde but I look just like my mom even though she's a brunette. Anyway, this is getting too technical!

Anyone consider that he may be a descendant of Tarkin? Look at these cheekbones.

For the latest rumor, we already have a twist regarding Rey's secret identity. Somehow I doubt JJ would pull the same thing twice in one film.

Well, at the least he can say "Well, she's got her secrets, and she has her reasons for keeping them." rather than to flat-out deny who she is. Or maybe they can reveal it in one of the trailers. Heck, the toys will probably give it away long before the movie does.

He could be anything, a descendant from Obi Wan, Tarkin, Count Doku, or offspring from Luke or Leia, maybe even a young clone of the Emperor is possible.
Although he could perform in a insignificant minor role.
Considering his look it's really hard to figure out who he could be playing.
I think that he is a great addition to the cast and I hope his role is not so small and even expands in VIII and IX.

I'm thinking he will have a large enough role to be a part of the "Main Cast" but his role will expand as the series goes on.

I mentioned several times a few days ago I would rather him be a Tarkin than a Skywalker. MSW said there was an armband prop of some sort used in the film that had Tarkin on it so maybe it ends up being Gleeson. We will see.

I think the toys come out like the cards. Half names or if they use a codename early in the film they come out with that name on the packaging. I think all we get out of the toys is a visual of some of the characters and some looks at new ships etc.

I propose that we call his character "Tardookan" or "Turducken" until we know who he is for sure.

So he is a Dooku inside of a Tarkin? Sounds painful.

I hope that Domhnall Gleeson's character turns out to be Luke's son. We'll see, but I hope so.

Say this rumor turns out to be true, Gleeson plays Luke's son and is on this mission playing both sides to get rid of the "super weapons". .... A thought just occurred to me. What if, in the process of destroying both weapons, Luke's son dies? Either killed or sacrificing himself. That could fit with the other rumor from a while back that "Luke survives the film, but changed." All this is based on an immense amount of speculation, but food for thought.

I wouldn't like it (Luke's son being introduced, just to be killed off), but it would certainly be a shock.
