I agree completely. No matter how great this movie is, the majority of fans will feel some sort of disappointment that something didn't happen the way they have pictured it to turn out. Most star wars fans, it seems from what I've seen, were disappointed by the elimination of the EU. We've all read these novels and comics for so long that we feel like our family history has been erased.

I disagree that a "majority" will feel disappointment. There will definitely be some, though, as there was with the prequels.

There are new stories, thats a huge opportunity, because under the line: the EU didnĀ“t work well. Hardcore fanbases are hard to please, they will complain anyhow.

Expectations are the curse of the SW fan. To paraphrase Yoda. You have to stop looking to the future. Keep you mind on where you are.

In other words, don't write the story in your head. Don't decide what happened since RotJ on your own. Enjoy the story as it unfolds in front of you. We have a chance in front of us now to enjoy Star Wars like no one has in 3 decades. To see cinematic stories unfold in front of us without any foreknowledge or expectations on where they will go. If you accept the stories for what they are you will be able to decide for yourself whether they are good or not. If you create an ideal ahead of time, they will never live up to it. Down that path only disappointment awaits.

People will have expectations, and in the end it will in many cases leave them feeling unsatisfied. But its a personal choice. You don't have to have expectations. You choose to have them. They are easily thrown aside if you don't want them anymore.

Could've been worse, If George had got his way it would've ended like this :):

"Han and Leia probably did get married. They settled down. She became a senator, and they got a nice little house with a white picket fence. Han Solo is out there cooking burgers on the grill." - http://uk.ign.com/articles/2005/05/13/lucas-spills-star-wars-secrets

And yet we see so many hoping to see those EU elements in the new movies. I feel really fortunate to have never read any of that stuff. Not because I think they were bad stories (though some of them really sound ridiculous), but because I spared myself from emotionally committing to stories that are about to be undone.

I read a few then decided to start again with a non-eu focus.

I've only read a few eu books and just couldn't get into them. I was more interested in the movies and hoping more would eventually come along. Especially all the talk of 7 - 12 through the years.

I hate to say this but am not looking forward to this film. Everyday I read forums, I hear news and my heart sinks. I know what I would like to see but I think we are getting the opposite. I obviously don't physically know what is happening but am going on gut feeling and what I was taught in film studies at college. My interpretations are usually right. Heck if was wrong on half the stuff I'd of failed my diploma (JOKING). Sad times :(

I don't think it's possible to judge this movie right now. Star Wars is action and adventure as well as anything else, and without seeing the movie there is no way to experience those crucial elements.

    Have a beer. You'll feel better. ;)

Seriously, internet forums like these get bogged down in negativity about unproven or misunderstood rumors. Stay optimistic and enjoy the wait.

We just have to wait until we see the movie for ourselves. We can complain about MSW's reports as much as we want, but reading their not terribly exciting descriptions is not the same as actually seeing the film.

I don't think anyone was saying they did... other than 1) those sets were clearly real and were built at Pinewood when Annie visited the studio. 2) It then becomes obvious you can make the link between the huge metal entrance in the snow and the First Order bunker seen in teaser two, and then link the huge stone entrance seen in the Vanity Fair Phasma photo and accompanying video with what was photographed at Pinewood by tourists and some of the similar pics seen at Celebration and deduce this is (probably) what Vanity Fair revealed as Maz's castle in the text.

So yeah, while they are not representative of "the movie" per se, they still revealed a lot.

Kinda weird, in a way, the marketing so far seems to be all about Kylo Ren and the droids...
More confirmation of 3PO's red arm...
