I agree that we don't know that Jedi do or do not have backups -- we've seen very little of organized Jedi life really. However, based on the movies I can't say that they do. IMO the lightsaber is a very personal object and weapon that preserves a Jedi's life. They're meant to be unique and special so having a backup seems improbable. (Which is ironic for me to write since in The Old Republic MMORPG I have like 20.) I think if this is something that they want to write in then I have no problem with it. It just needs to be stated IMO.

 

I don't know if you have seen the recently leaked concept art but you may get your wish on that one. I think the saber will make an appearance and be her first one much like Luke. I do however find it hard to believe she will be as naive as Luke was. She will know who her parents are and be aware of the force, possible having been trained a bit before going into hiding, if indeed she is hiding from something. Light sabers are not so easily cast aside or lost, very valuable items me thinks.

 

I don't see Luke dabbling in the dark side at all in this film, he already passed that test in Jedi when he refused to fight and trusted in the force. The light side is much more powerful for those who practice patience and discover it's true nature.

Interesting info about the origin of that name but it's much more likely that it's just a Akira Kurosawa reference. Have you ever seen a movie called "The Hidden Fortress?" It's a delightful movie and the two main characters were supposedly the inspiration for the droids. I like "The Hidden Fortress" every bit as much as the more known "Seven Samurai."

Luke and Daisy aare Padawan and master. They go on a training mission and luke feels a disturbance in the force. He tells Daisy to go to whatever desert planet it is. They then come under attack and get separated. Daisy losses an engine on her x wing and barely keeps it together as she crash lands on the desert planet. Luke gets the attention of the attackers and leads them away. And maybe goes on his own to fight the enemy. Finding a powerful ( Maybe Sith) enemy he battles him and wins but the eenemy escapesand he loses his light saber.
it is found by an imperial (boyega) who keeps it hidden and doesn'ttell his ccommander he found it. And goes awol ending up on the same planet as Daisy.
They meet and she feels the force in him and feels he is good and together they go off to find what happened to Luke, while being pursued by Christie's character. .....well that'sas far as I got time to go Iinto right now...
probably way off but who knows...

 

Having read through the thread it's time to comment on this subject. I think I am in the majority, after reading this thread and others, in thinking/wanting "Kira" to be a solo kid. It's more of a given than Luke having kids since there is already a love interest seen on screen in Jedi, squeezing a wife for Luke in and not seeing it take place on screen is a bit of a stretch. I am not a fan of the idea of flashbacks, they are a story telling crutch.

With Marvel struggling to release a super hero movie with a female protagonist and Star Wars needing something different yet the same I think the timing will be perfect for Ridley to take the helm of the Star Wars universe. So far all clues lead to her being not only a Solo kid carrying that potent Skywalker blood but also the focus of our next trilogy. I believe this will happen.

As an aside, we know there will be 6 new movies not just three. Who's to say we don't meet Luke's love interest during this trilogy and the fruits of that union turn out to be the main focus of the NEXT trilogy? I'm sure the old master, while past his prime maybe, can still cut the mustard. We need to see these things as they happen for this to feel like SW, I've already stated my feelings toward flashbacks...

In the recent leaked concept art we see what looks very much like Anakin's saber in "Kira's" hand, I don't think this is a coincidence or merely a concept artist being nostalgic. With all the talk of "sith collectors" and "saber finding" it may very well be that the saber is indeed Anakin's, the same saber Luke lost on Bespin.

So let's talk about Bespin. It's a gas giant correct? It has no "ground" for the saber to fall on and like most planets of that sort once you get closer to the core you experience a super dense atmosphere and usually violent weather. Very unlikely that if the object we saw fall away from Luke in Empire was his hand and saber that it could ever be recovered. That's OK, because it DIDN'T fall from the cloud city with him, instead it never left the structure. Here's a pick of the frame in the movie that shows the supposed hand and saber. What do you think? If we do see a scene of someone fishing this thing off of Bespin they are going to have to make it a good one. It would be a stretch. During the duel with Vader the hand falls waaay before Luke so why would we assume they landed in the same place? When the final trap door opens spilling Luke out into the atmosphere he was not sitting on his hand. The saber was still on Bespin and was scooped up later by Vader and the Empire making it much more likely that our new hero Kira eventually crosses paths with it. Perhaps it's stolen from an collection or archive before it ends up on Kira's planet?

In closing I feel that Kira being the a Solo kid is very likely and her wielding Luke's saber, while less likely, is a real possibility. The one thing I am totally sure of is that she will be our new hero for the next three movies and they will center around her character development.
Who else on the cast could fill that role?

 

I'm still highly doubtful of the Kira is a Solo theory, but I will refer back to my one semi-reputable source who only ever told me stuff once about the light saber. Yes it is Anakin's and yes it was on Cloud City. My source says the hand and saber are retrieved by the man who would become Driver's master and we see this in a flashback that will explain the origin and purpose of Driver's order. My theory is that either Boyega or a struggle of Driver overcoming his master will cause a box containing the lightsaber to plummet to the planet Ridley is on and I say blue guy finds it and brings it to her.

 

so Driver is the main villain in VII?

 

He will appear to be, and will be the driving force. But the end will reveal him to be nothing more then a pawn of a greater evil.

 

hopefully it's neither Luke nor his possible child that are the greater evil.

 

Though the originating source at ImageShack has been since deleted, TheForce.net and Nerdist.com still has the concept art (Cantina discussion) for presumed Ridley's character and "home" location.

I figure I'd put it into this thread for reference purposes.

Also, I recently went back and fixed most of the things I've posted in this thread being broken because Ridley deleted her twitter account.

If "Kira" scares away the scavengers do we suspect she uses the Force similar to Obi Wan and the Tusken Raiders. I would think that even in a disguise one person would not be enough to chase off a group of people, especially ones who have it in them to go snooping around a downed TIE

I think things will not be as they appear to be. She will be made to look one way but actually be the opposite.
