That's how JJ's sense of mystery works, though. The audience will be wondering throughout Acts 1 and/or 2 why Rey was raised on this dustbowl of a planet. And then in Act III (or Episode 8) you get the explanation.

If I had to guess, I would say they were protecting Rey from kidnapping/assassination. And that Montross (MWS) is an old family friend they trust.

It's also possible they hid Rey because "the Force runs strong in my family" and after Luke was captured they were worried he might spill the beans on Rey. I think it's possible the bad guys use Rey to activate their super weapon rather than Luke (going off of the recent MSW rumors).

Rey Skywalker

Prior to SpoilerMan the rumors were just that the cyborg happened to be in the bar when Rey and Finn came in with Luke's saber. He floated the "raised by" rumor and I think it has been taken as the only option going forward." It is completely possible that he is Boba Fett or Dengar with a drinking problem and PTSD who recognized a lightsaber.

 

Card numbers = scene numbers?

 

Maybe but some of the numbers are very high that look to be early on. I think the numbers of the new cards link back to similar situations from the OT cards. Someone posted them side by side and that is what stuck out most to me.

 

True, but they just renumbered the Finn one to number 18 (with the caption below reading 'digital trading card 11'?!) over at starwars.com.

Yes but they switched it from Artoo on the Rebel Cruiser to 3PO looking for Artoo in the desert. So this puts both Artoo and Finn lost in the desert.

 

My guess is she will be the "new luke" without necessarily have to be his kid or related.I think she is the main character like luke was in the OT,not Boyega.

 

I agree she might be no body or she might be a Solo but either way she is the one. I think she will fall for Finn and Poe will get the Falcon

 

Likely. Though there just has to be a new Skywalker in there, somewhere. From what we know now, I feel she fits the bill perfectly.
Besides Rey Skywalker is the coolest name in the galaxy. Though Poe Dameron rocks hard as well.

 

I wonder if Leia will go be Solo or Organa or Solo-Organa or Skywalker or Solo-Skywalker . . .

I think its going to be Kylo Ren Solo and thus Skywalker. Unless Leia goes by Solo-Skywalker or just Skywalker then her son might be Kylo Ren Skywalker.

 

I think it's still the saga of Luke Skywalker...but him in a not in the same way prominent role if it makes sense.
A key figure still in some way without stealing the screen from the new batch..

 

I doubt Leia would go by Skywalker. She was still raised by the Organas, loved them and viewed them as her parents, even though she was adopted. And there's also the risk that it got out (even just rumors throughout the galaxy) that Anakin Skywalker was Darth Vader. Not good for her politically if she went by Skywalker.

 

So it just dawned on me...as silly as I think it is when people joke about Lobot...what if Sydow's is indeed an old Lobot? Could be considered a trustworthy person to watch over Rey and...

In Rebels, we just saw a story line where Ezra was supposed to be taken care of by a Rodian with the same neural implant as Lovit, but he failed Ezra.

Just saying...it could make sense for Rey Solo/Skywalker to be raised by him AND it would explain why he seems to be in and out of things.

Meditate on this, I will...

 

MvS being in and out of things could just be a ruse. I.e., he pretends to be foggy to gain people's trust, set them at ease, but when he reports back to his boss he's actually quite lucid. It's that sudden change in mental temperament that will be surprising in the film. Kinda of like Yoda's revelation in ESB, but in a dark way.

 

Agreed, but, if you saw those episodes of Rebels at the end of the season, the description matches.

Remember, Lobot is connected to the central computer of Cloud City, think of it like a wifi signal...the further away from the source, the weaker the signal and you tend to fade in and out of service.

 

All except the last, methinks. I think she is Han's and Leia's daughter who had childhood Jedi training - depending on her age, that could even be ten year's worth, but it would have been stopped when Luke went into hiding. She has a lightsaber, and I would say that it's green, unless they really do find Luke's hand clutching his ROTJ lightsaber, which was also green. The mummified Bespin hand theory would give her Anakin's blue saber. Dunno why I got going on lightsaber colors.... carry on!

 

It drives me nuts wondering if Rey is a Solo,Skywalker or a no one. Back months ago I read that the Arndt drafts played around with all three but when JJ and Kasdan came aboard she went back to being a Solo.

Of course I have no clue how legit that info was.
