I'm actually in love with that idea! I'm curious if he would name his empire the "Sith empire"? It would definitely open the way to new and exciting post tros lore. I have a theory that the Sith empire, the First Order, and the New republic/jedi post tros will have to tolerate each other like in the Old republic days. I'm aware that factions change all the time in SW lore so i really wouldn't be surprised but its just a wild theory of mine hahaha. (duel)
If this theory does pull through I'm sure that the Sith empire wouldn't be as the First Order.

    "Execute Order 67!" :p

Actually, I really like this idea. I hope we get to see an entire army of these Sith Troopers!

That's great! I really hope they close out the Skywalker saga well, but leave a way for the story to continue. I'm sure that in 10 years time, after RJs and Benihoff & Weiss’ trilogies, they'll want to revisit Rey and co.

I don’t get the controversy with these troopers... not in the least. Every SW film has introduced a different variation of stormtrooper... There must be at least a dozen designs with very slight differences between them. Why does this red stormtrooper in particular is considered “lazy” or unoriginal or whatever? It’s like saying “Entrepreneur Barbie” is a rip off of “Malibu Barbie” lol.

People are complaining about everything regarding the ST.
Personally I love all the designs for the troopers in this trilogy. At least they are real and look like real. The clonetroopers in the PT otherwise...

Exactly. These stormtroopers need to feel as if they are in the same universe as the others and be an evolution of the previous design, not just something completely random.

You know you are a Star Wars fan when... the simple announcement of a name of variety of soldier gets your mind working overtime at the possibilities.

I really like the look of these Sith Troopers so far, and it had me thinking all sorts as soon as I read the name. Are they troopers who are actually Sith? Or simply elite troopers for a (/the) Sith? Or neither and are named in reference to/memory of Sith who are no longer around? I love it when thre are little puzzles like this until we know for sure.

But we know this: the last film was (kind of, in part) about the Jedi getting their act together. And the third film is always about returns of some sort (Revenge/Return/Rise). The merest mention of the S-word (er, Sith, I mean!) is interesting given that Palpatine is figuring in TROS in some way, and could possibly be about the Sith being a thing again. Maybe abandoning the whole 'rule of two' thing (Palpatine seemed to treat that quite loosely anyway).

I really love the idea these are gong to be cloned troopers, and of course if they're cloned, they could have been genetically altereed to be more receptive to the Force (or even specifically pre-dispositioned to the dark side?).

Of course they might just be FO Troopers meant to look cool in red. That is also ok by me! But I would like some greater significance if it works well.

Any criticism of the Sith Troopers would be hypocritical if they didn't criticize Clone Troopers for looking like Storm Troopers, Death Troopers for just being black, etc. I think the issue is people are thinking of Sith as carrying lightsabers like these guys. But it's really who their allegiance is to, not who they are.[IMG]

Apparently, these were Sith Troopers in the Old Republic Era.

Who does this one look like?

I may be wrong but I have the feeling “Sith trooper” is just a name and they are called that because they are red.

If everything that came before was just part of Palpy’s plan then the OT loses all significance and ROTJ was really a victory for the empire.

I truly hope JJ doesn’t do that and cheapen the OT like that.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't all planned like this, but if the emperor had a plan in case everything goes wrong like it did), doesn't diminish the OT for me.

I agree, this is my biggest concern with TROS. No matter what else they reveal leading up to release, they have to hit a home run on this. There are so many ways this can go south with bringing him back. I like to think they know what they're doing though. They have said they want to tie all these trilogies together. So, I imagine that they wouldn't diminish Anakin's sacrifice.

I agree there are ways it could, as you say, "go south", but I am hoping that Palpatine's return is going to lean heavily on the spiritual/Force aspect - I'm not saying he can't be a physical presence in some way, but I think it could be as some rumours/theories go that it's more about Palpatine's spirit, maybe possessing a body than his PT/OT-bodily self surviving. In this way, Anakin's sacrifice would remain entirely undiminished in my eyes - he saved Luke from the actions of the Emperor's body at that moment in ROTJ, even if he couldn't completely destroy Palpatine as an 'entity' at the same time (there wasn't much more he could have done at the point really!).

Whether Anakin knew Palpatine could survive or not would make for an interesting story somewhere too, but I don't think it really matters in terms of him saving Luke.

Either way, the idea that Palpatine's spirit survived using some dark-side sneakery (technical term ;):p) woudl be one that totally fits with the whole saga, both the idea of what Plagueis/Sidious were about and how Anakin was tempted to the dark side in the first place, and also the notion that the Sith can't become one with the Force in the way the Jedi can. I would liken it to the idea of a poltergeist - a malign, troublesome spirit that can't pass on to the next world, compared to the more serene (at peace) Force ghosts the Jedi can become.

I have always been firmly in the 'wanting Snoke to be Plagueis' camp for lots of reasons, because I think it could work out as a great reveal and explanation as to both how Palpatine still exists in some form and also why and how Snoke looked like he did (as if his body was not fully formed or something - we just don't know if it was decaying or repairing itself - I would argue he looks more fully-formed in TLJ than FTA, but I think they've purposefully fudged it a bit so there's some doubt).

Alternatively it might just be Kylo finds a Sith holocron. That could still work ok, but right now I think I'd find that route slightly less interesting than actually having Palptine's spirit involved.

Sorry if this is all a bit off-topic... That's what invoking the word 'Sith' will do!

I disagree with all y'all's concerns here regarding RoS. Assuming JJ & Co aren't stupid (which we know they are not), and assuming they have a shred of creativity and some joy for the project (which we know they have in spades), and assuming corp-heads doesn't screw up and demand stuff (and so far Disney has been pretty hands-off), I actually think doing RoS well is pretty easy. The slate is clean... there are few characters left... few legacy arcs and issues that needs to be tied off... (Luke's arc is done, Han's is too, Chewbacca & Leia doesn't need any tying off as they can just live on in retirement or, if they have to, be killed off)... Palpatine returns (in some form) to help tie of whatever is left... No, this is only a matter of juggling the new characters, plus doing something cool with R2 & C3PO, without belittling what has gone before, and since we know JJ & Co possesses talent and brains, a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker Saga is more or less a given. The only question for me is whether RoS will be satisfying and cool, or some sort of endgame master piece :)

    Don't worry, they've got this!

    It's actually "galactic CONQUEST"
