I was viewing the forums over at The Force.NET and a member posted about a recent MSW podcast that stated in the possible scene where Kylo has Rey prisoner, he tortures her. After so long of wanting the lightsabre, after this interrogation he decides he no longer needs it.

Does he reckon that Rey can help him in some way?

I still think Rey is a destined Force user that Uber wants similar to how Palpatine wanted Anakin

Yes. If I remember correctly it was around the same time as her scavenging in the destroyer. It was a sequence of shots demonstrating her being a very solitary figure. That's the way it was described anyway

Nah she's there to stand tall, look pretty and in the end needs to be saved. She's the trophy for the hero or dies.............

To think some people believe women's positions in movies has progressed.

I think it will be much different in this case. I don't remember the exact quote but KK would not have said what she did about new strong female leads in Star Wars if your assumption was true.

You've had this very pessimistic view concerning Rey for a long time, where is the origin of this?

Your probably right about me been a pessimist. I'm just confused, I don't want things to happen then I end up believing that it will. As a woman myself been brought up on Disney and Nintendo games, women getting captured and having the need to be saved or getting killed - well its just the norm. I want to write more as its only polite for me to answer you. I will be honest and say I know nothing about this movie, I hope people believe me when I say that. There are a few things going on in my mind and maybe I should pull away from message boards for a while because they are addictive. Am realizing that am probably snapping at people and I shouldn't. I know I read a post a few days ago which I read and I found it so condescending and ignorant, All am saying is that I'm agitated and I find it hard to express what I mean and it comes out wrong. Does that make sense? Probably not. Also I just want to say where ever this mistrust in my mind comes from, I want to make it clear I hold nothing against Daisy Ridley - in fact I should know better. I used to work on forum where I know that a particular celebrities had family reading certain stuff. It was a very delicate situation and one I found a lot of guilt. I guess the orgin in my fear just stems back from childhood and brain has become so condition to develop mistrust in both real worlds and fantasy. I have nothing physical to prove anything am just running round in circles. Oh and I don't know anyone on pinewood set so please people don't send me private messages asking silly questions like people have done in the past. Am not claiming to know anything, I would be lying otherwise.

    Christ I have written a load of gobbledygook haven/t I? :(
    peace xxxx

This is why I don't put much stock in everything that MSW posts too often I feel like they are all over the map. Of course they have landed some solid info, but I feel like they shoot at every target and then when the smoke clears they can say but look at all the things we hit on first and got right. Ignore the wild goose chases that we went on to get there though.

If this were 1992 think I would understand your point but honestly hasn't Disney come out swinging to bring different women into stories. I mean Wall-E would have lost a few were it not for Eve. Merrida in Brave was hardly weak nor a trophy. Tangled had Rapunzel and Finn fighting for who gets to sacrifice themselves for the other. Umm Frozen. They are 3 seasons into Once Upon a Time and it is pretty much only about the women.

Well, speaking only for myself I can say that you didn't come across as anything other than skeptical. I dare say you have good reason to be when looking at pop culture as a whole and over time.

But so far the only one I see doing any saving is Rey herself. And, if at some point in the story she needs to be rescued, something tells me it won't because she's a damsel in distress. We shall see in time. :)

Just been thinking about this parenting think with Rey. There is a rumor that she was orphaned due to the battle of Jakku. That has got me thinking. It's been suggested the battle was set 30 years before the start of this movie (I have also read 15 too). The age of Rey is guesstimated between 17 - 20. This would mean that any person perished (the parents) died after the battle so Rey was not orphaned at that skirmish. I mean we still don't know who her parents are I just don't think this particular angle of a child becoming orphaned fits.
I actually don't like the idea of the Jedi academy and Rey been placed under the custody of Luke. However, the more I think about it, it kinda fits. If Luke is not the father (I'm still convinced he's not) I reckon he must know who Rey's parentage is or at least have an idea. I don't think her background is completely unknown within the film.
