2017 NFL Season

At least your team doesn't have to play him (usually) more than once a year, if that...

 

Anyone wanna hear a story? I met some famous dudes who inadvertently ended up cursing my team into tragedy. I'll be back tomorrow with the full story.. just dropping that little teaser here for now.

 

Of course I want to here the story.
& what happened to your teams defence as that is not a normal score in the NFL.

 

Oh man I'm such a teasing bastard. I totally forgot to follow up on that, I'm sorry!! Here we go:

Last month I was in Tampa for work and on our off day, Sunday, I had nothing else to do but to go to the nearest sports bar to watch all of the day's NFL action and of course to watch my Lions take on the Falcons. It was pretty crowded and I was by myself anyway so I grabbed a seat at the bar. The guy beside me ended up being a Falcons fan, but he was really cool so we talked a bit throughout the game. Later on, the manager came up to him (must have been friends) and said "Hey I don't know if you like country music or anything but Zac Brown Band is sitting over there." I looked across the bar to a table with about 12 people at it, and lo and behold there he was. The whole band actually, plus some family/crew. I recognized him but I probably wouldn't have if I wasn't told in the first place, they were really chill and inconspicuous.

I went back to watching my Lions get their butts kicked by the Falcons, then out of nowhere the Lions started making a comeback. Toward the end of the 3rd quarter the game was all tied up. I started getting excited and then realized that ZBB was from Atlanta and they were there to watch the same game as me. I found some "liquid courage" and told the guy beside me that I was gonna go talk a little smack to Zac Brown Band.

So I walk up to their table with a smile, and I saw a few looks like 'aw man here we go'... but I just said, "hey guys, I don't want to bother you, I just want to see if you're interested in a little wager.." and I pointed to my Lions shirt, and their whole table (all Falcons fans) started laughing and went "Ooooooohhh!" So then Zac gets a big smile on his face and he goes "You wanna throw a hunny on it??" And well, no, I did in fact not feel like losing $100 to anyone that day, or of all people the millionaire that is Zac Brown. So I said "Ehhh I was thinking more like, Winner gets the Loser's autograph." and I guess their table loved that cause they were all laughing and said "That's a good bet" so he said Deal, we shook hands and I walked back to my seat for the rest of the game.

At this point, I didn't care how the game ended up. That in itself was a really cool experience. Then, as I sat down, literally the very next play was a Falcons touchdown. They all immediately look at me and start laughing and making signature gestures. The next 10 minutes of the game continued that way, the Falcons were clearly in control and going to win. Resigned to my team's fate, I asked the waitress for a pen and got a stack of napkins to start signing. Yeah I know my autograph is worthless but hey a bet's a bet. I didn't start signing just yet though, because I didn't want to curse myself. Superstition is a real mother, you know.

Then, again, the Lions mounted a miraculous comeback. The game was dragging on, and the Lions were looking like they were going to score the go-ahead touchdown. I was on the edge of my seat. Then, with 8 seconds left, the Lions DID score:

...or so I thought. So we all thought. Zac Brown Band immediately jumped up from the table and headed for the door, but they stopped to find me and motioned me outside. I followed them out and they all had loser's grins (haha, suckers) and I said "That was an incredible game guys, oh sorry for your loss though..." and he says "Yeah yeah... well lemme pay up, can I sign something for you?" and I said "No, I don't have a marker or anything, it was just cool meeting you guys." but then someone else in their group came up with one so Zac said "How about I ironically sign your Lions shirt." (and I was thinking uhhh... thats sacred man...) but in the heat of the moment I said "Yeah man go for it!" So I'm standing there while he's signing my sleeve and I say "Hey you're really writing a lot down there, your name isn't that long" and he just smiled. I shook their hands again then they hit the road. I looked down at my sleeve, and saw his autograph with a "Go Falcons" and what I think is the Falcons logo. I was all smiles and then I walk back and look at the TV, and apparently they had been reviewing the go-ahead Lions touchdown, and then I saw those two dreaded words: CALL REVERSED.

I went over to the guy I had been sitting beside and asked him what happened, and he said "I have no idea but the Falcons just won." and then he looked at my shirt, and I looked at him and I said "Effin' Zac Brown Band just cursed the Lions. You can thank him for that one."

So that's why it's important to never settle a bet until the clock reads 0:00.

Haha normally I wouldn't have done anything, but since our fandoms were battling it out I felt it was appropriate.

Haha, it was an awesome experience. Made losing a little easier, until the next day when I was just back to being pissed off about referees and the NFL in general. You know, a typical Monday.

 

GO BROWNS.

 

I have a ton of friends / family who are Brown's fans. They're probably my second favorite team... would love to see them pull this off today!!

Unfortunately not but I do get to watch this one live on the BBC which is nice..

Of course you being a Lions fan it would give your team a big boost if they can get a win today.

Now they just have to learn how to catch a punt.

 

That's good. I enjoy these early London games. I get to start my Sunday with football at 9:30am and end it the same way at 11:30pm. It's an ideal Sunday... just don't ask my wife, she'll have a different answer.

Haha at least it only resulted in 3 pnts! Cleveland's D is better than they get credit for, if only the offense could hold up their end of the bargain.

 

Well it was Close for the first half but then the Brown just st ran out of energy & it became quite one sided. At least they won't lose next week.

 

Man the Texans really came to play today.

Do these teams know what defensive is.

It does however make this a very entertaining game to follow.
