A letter to Kennedy/Abrams from a worried parent

I have just one question for @T.R.P.

I'm putting my personal feelings aside on the matter, I have shared them privately but don't see the need for sharing them at this time. But there is something I am curious about

What factor of TFA being PG-13 would make it unsuitable for children? Language? not going to happen. Sex? definitely not going to happen, I'd be surprised if there is even a kiss. Blood/Gore? minor case since we have already seen the bloody handprint on Finn's helmet but Star Wars isn't exactly known for its gruesome imagery.

RotS got PG-13 for its VERY dark imagery and probably for the immolation of Anakin scene, otherwise its violence was no different from the violence depicted in every other Star Wars film.

I don't want to assume what your feelings are and I want to know what you fear exposing your child to? PG stands for Parental Guidance allowing you, the parent, to decide what is appropriate for your child. So what is it you're afraid he will see? If TFA hits PG-13 it will be for similar reasons as RotS, I'm assuming you yourself watched RotS and found it not appropriate for your child so again is it the violence you have issues with? Any response from you would be appreciated.

O wanted to see did @T.R.P. post on this thread other times(and because now there are 7 pages) so I wanted to check on her profile via recent activities did she read,discuss or gave ratings to anybody's post. Apparently I can't. That said her profile looks like made very fast and her last activity was Thursday... Not gonna be surprised if she's not going to check back...

 

She didn't exactly get a warm welcome... no surprise if she bailed never to return.

 

Like i said in my original post, her views are something that would have been better served on a parent-check movie website. On a heavily-addicted Star Wars forum, her worries sounded more like a complaint She means well, but the placement of the issue made it worse.

 

I don't know. There's a bloodied and severed arm in ANH, ESB has twincestual kissing and more dismemberment (including decapitation), and ROTJ has rape slaves.

Come to think of it: OT was pretty dark. Fairy tales used to be much more graphic and violent years ago.

 

Star Wars will no longer be movies with slap stick and kiddie humor. I spoke to someone high up at Disney and even the dancing stormtroopers at parks are going away (to my relief ). They said the goofy antics devalue the characters persona.

 

It's time for a nu rating between PG & PG13. Like a PG9 or 8.
