As many fans will already know, Red Letter Media's Mike Stoklasa and Rich Evans have both in the past predicted -with uncanny accuracy- at how the Star Wars Trilogy and Anthology film stories will be written.

They have a new prediction video for the latest film, The Rise Of Skywalker (which I've not yet seen yet). Should be interesting. . . .

If you disagree with their predictions or hate their opinions, then go tell these 'hack frauds' so at their YouTube channel, and don't go hate-rating me just because I'm telling you that they made this prediction video. I didn't make this video! I'm just telling you they made one! I haven't even seen it yet, so it seems a bit unfair to go blaming me for something I didn't make! Don't shoot the messenger!

after 8 minutes of the same old rubbish... this was bad, that was bad. Terrio wrote this? this will be terrible! JJ can't write.. he should never write etc etc etc. i stopped watching it.

    it's just another bashing video.

there is no such thing as a good writer or a bad writer.. there is only what you personally like reading.
there is no such thing as a good or bad movie.. only what you personally like watching.

it makes me sick to my stomach when someone says that someone is a bad writer and that they shouldn't write. shame on anyone who says that

    ~
i would watch a video before putting a link on this site.. but that's just me.

I've watched it and it's entertaining as always. The great thing about RLM is they are SW fanatics who have the guts to adress the problems with Star Wars (the whole franchise, not just the Disney era). But they also honor the good and jucy stuff. You can clearly see that in this video.

Do I think they're right? No, I'm definitely not feeling that way. Mainly because I know some leaks and have my own predictions. But some of their ideas are interesting, others are just ridiciulous and won't happen.

    I think it's called parody.

Unfortuntely that's not true. Writing and/or film making follows certain rules and aesthetics. If these aren't dealt with correctly, then we often see something as bad.

It's a matter of experience. If we have something to pull off that shows someone writes mainly unsatisfying products, then it's reasonable to say he/she is not talented enough to write. I'm not saying Terrio is a bad writer, because I haven't watched all his movies. But there is worry...

Except they don't have the guts to review the OT in great detail like they did with the PT and Disney era movies because the OT is perfect in their eyes. Can't stand theses guys. Sure they have knowledge of story writing and etc, but their biases are too much.

i don't think it's reasonable to tell someone who writes that they are not talented enough to do it.

of course it's reasonable to have an opinion on someone's writing.. but not to label them as someone who shouldn't do it.

it scares the life out of me that there might be teachers out there telling kids that they're not good enough to write.

i see writing as art. not good/bad.. you either like it or you don't.

I really don't see the need for personal attacks like they threw at Terrio. they don't know the guy.. they threw up the names of 2 super hero movies because they know that they will get enough support from a number of fans that didn't like them. I notice that they didn't say "omg the guy that wrote the screenplay for Argo is writing a Star Wars movie.. it's going to be terrible!".

@NinjaRen you know that i'm not taking a swipe at you.. our differing opinions are what make us interesting. (plus you know i love ya :p)
anyone that knows me will know that i don't read or write anything if i can help it lol.. so my opinions are probably worthless anyway.

meh.. ignore me - i just don't like these videos. i shouldn't watch them.

But it's reasonable to criticize someone for his/her writing. And if he/she isn't listening to this criticism, doesn't work on the writing skills or keeps producing trash, then it's defintiely fair to suggest a change of occupation. That's my point.

Yes, writing is art. And yes, there's different levels of understanding of art. But viewing and understanding art does have roots in objectivity. So IMO it's just not true that anything art is a matter of subjectivity.

RLM's "emaciated Dark Side Ewoks with red glowing eyes under the control of the Emperor" are characters I'd pay to see.

sorry bro, but i don't agree.

good or bad, great or trash.. these things mean nothing to me. it only matters if people love what they do - not how well they do it.

we do seem to be a society now that has to judge everything... score everything.. give likes/dislikes to everything.
that's ok of course, but it's not me.

but hey.. we all come in different flavors, and i suspect that there are very few that would agree with me. :)
well that opinion on subjectivity is clearly subjective :p hahahaha :D

But you do care if the product is good, right? I don't buy it that you just want the creators of digital media have fun while making stuff. As a content creator myself I love creating stuff, yes, but I also hope people enjoy my work.

If I'm invested in something- let's say Star Wars, then I want it to be good and enjoyable to watch. If Terrio had fun writing the script, then good for him. But if I don't like the finsihed product, why should I care if he had fun or not? It won't change my perception on anything. For example I really respect Rian for getting his vision for TLJ done and in the Making Of documentary we saw that he really enjoyed himself. That's really good for him, and I'm happy he took so much enjoyment out of this movie. But I still don't like the movie.

That's nothing new. People always did and will keep on doing this. You can't change human nature.

I totally agree. Im a teacher and I always encourage my student regardless because they can do nothing but improve. There is nothing wrong with healthy criticism from someone more knowledgeable. I also agree with the good/bad comments. Good, bad, great, excellent, its sucks, yada yada yada are all simply opinion words describing how they feel about it. Everyone has them and none are right or wrong. But over my experience on forums since before the PT, I see many that get caught up and argue over opinions. In the end nobody wins because everyone has opinions/feelings and always will.

I can agree with this but I also feel you have take in consideration of where the criticism is coming. To me, there is a fine line between healthy professional criticism and someone's opinion on a subject. If its coming from someone who is more knowledgeable, experienced in the subject with a proven track record then it is wise to heed what they are saying., but if it is coming from the average person based what they thought of past pieces of work then its probably best not to listen because the next joe schmo will have a different critique.

RLM were big defenders of TFA back in 2015 (they could have easily bashed it as another rehash of ANH), as they even mention in this video they looked forward to the new characters the most in this Trilogy. They didn’t like TLJ, but the fanbase was split on that too. Rich liked Solo where Mike was not a big fan. And they felt R1 was OK but felt it was a fanservice heavy film. These guys aren’t like Geeks and Gamers as that aren’t just a bashing SW site as RLM usually makes some good predictions. Rich said back in 2015 that Luke must be in a really bad place as he is the Last Jedi so that was a pretty good prediction!

Sorry but no. This is not parody. This video is satire, or at least, satire is what it wants to be, and as such this video doesn't need to be constructive, just witty, perceptive and irreverent, and for me it fails on those three counts. The guy in grey appears to be more analytical and makes good observations, such as pinpointing JJ Abrams's tendency of prioritising sentiment over theme and illustrate this with examples, a bit too earnest for a satiric video but hey, why not. However, his attempts at giving "funny" predictions are too full of personal prejudice to possess the irreverence of satire, give aways are his repeating of the word "retcon" and his mocking the ending of TLJ just by saying what happened as if it was funny by itself... It is not. You are making satire, man, come up with the material, make these films look truly absurd. The guy with the beard's bashing comments are just not funny in the least. He appears to believe that just by saying something is bad and laughing uncontrollably he is offering amazing comedy... No mister, that's not the way it works. Be creative and produce funny stuff illustrating why doing more Star Wars that is not the OT is either repetitive or just bad. If you come up with good examples, I will laugh.

Also, wedging in the clip of JJ and his son saying that they wrote a comic three times is not funny... unless your audience is 13, which now that I think about it may possibly be the case...

This video unfortunately is too similar to all those ST bashing videos in youtube that want to be funny by being obnoxious... That is not good comedy.

You hit the nail on the head here. Criticism is fair, but it has to come from a place of knowledge, and these guys in this RLM video, for the most part, are displaying none. It is not good enough to criticise Terrio because you disliked his previous two scripts (although we should remember that both of those scrips mentioned were written by Terrio partially: one of them is a rewrite on a script already written and the other was a preliminary script, the opposite situation). If you want to give your criticism any weight whatsoever you have to say why you thought a script was bad, pinpoint problems pertinent to the writing craft that could transfer to the writing of TROS, offer hypothetical solutions. In 2 words: be constructive. It is not irrelevant that the words critic and criticism derive from the greek word kritikos which means "able to discern". If not you're just moaning and producing content with no substance.

This video is too earnest, unfunny and full of prejudice to be a satire, and lacks the necessary depth to be critical. I'm not sure what these guys were trying to produce but it is not working for me.

Here is Rich predicting EXACTLY what happens in TLJ back in 2015, so these guys aren't your typical YouTube dummies who are just going for clicks.

^ 0:26 - In 2015, Rich Evans predicted Episode 8's title even before TFA was released!

RLM are based in Wisconsin, miles away from the mainstream ocean coast based media who live off political correctness, blame shaming and identity politics.

I generally enjoy RLM's content, even when they're ridiculing movies I like, but I think they missed the mark with this one. It definitely wasn't one of their funnier efforts, and even they admit that it will probably be their least accurate predictions video.
