Im sure this isnt a new idea, but for me it is. I was watching Star Wars last night with a few friends and one of those friends happens to be a mother. She mentioned something that i never thought of before...

Padme knows of her demise because Anakin tells her of his vision right? She knows that she is carrying a child... she doesn't know yet that they are twins...Then things start flying off the handle over night. Suddenly she is bringing twins into a world that is divided by civil war and all the protectors of the galaxy(as she knows them) have been killed. This must be devastating for a mother, yet she has an unexplained death during pregnancy...her doctors say that she has simply lost the will to live. Naturally if Padme had never lost her will to live, she would have wanted to be there for her children to protect them to the best of her ability but the Force in all its power prevented this most basic of instincts...

we talked extensively about why Padme lost the will to live here in the Cantina. I think it was eventually agreed that Padme's life was taken from her by the emperor to save Darth Vaders life...The Force is powerful, and in this case overtook a mothers love for her children...A powerful blow. Obviously this decision makes no difference to the Emperor who ordered Darth Vader to kill all the young-lings at the Jedi Temple he did what he had to do to get the most powerful and most easily manipulated Jedi to do his biding.
