Something I’ve enjoyed in fiction --- from the Reimagined Battlestar Galactica to the Harry Potter series --- is learning about a prophecy, and then seeing how it can be misinterpreted yet fulfilled all at the same time. The story line of Episodes I through VI covered the period of time when the “Prophecy of the One Who Will Bring Balance to the Force” came to fruition (or, per some of the threads on this forum, partially fulfilled).

Now that we’ve arrived at Episode VII... are we solely dealing with the fallout of a “recently balanced Force” OR might there be a NEW prophecy (or set of prophecies) that will dictate the next Star Wars narrative?

In his years of isolation and meditation, might Luke Skywalker have become a sort of “Oracle” who will utter glimpses of the future? With all of this "relic hunting", might our heroes stumble upon a Holocron or other artifact that will spell the next chapters of the Skywalker family future?

I’m left pondering what J.J. and company might have in store for us, and hoping at least a little of it will be teasing us with in-universe prophecies.

What would your prophecy in the Star Wars Universe be?

We heard from Kathleen Kennedy that this is a continuation of the Skywalker Saga. So the chances are better that it is a continuation of the original prophecy. But, I voted for something new, just because why not? I'd like to think that an expanded Universe like Star Wars can have multiple prophecies.

I think we should stick with the Chosen One prophecy, but I think it'd be interesting if Anakin wasn't the Chosen One, but rather the Jedi were all wrong in that assessment (I don't think there's been an explicit declaration of his Chosen One-ness, has there?)

You know, I'm gonna just throw this spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks:

    1. Qui-gon thinks anakin is the chosen one so he decides to train him. The Jedi council is reluctant, but allows it. (Most PT Jedi didn't live up to the hype for me, but that's another topic)

    2. Yoda decides to train Luke, and gives him a whole lot of grief about it. But he's the last hope, so let's have a try

    3. Force ghost Obi-wan suggests Luke is the last hope, and yoda says there is another. We're left to find out and assume he's referring to Liea.

My summation: either this prophecy sucks, or the Jedi can't read it to save their lives! So what now, Rey is the chosen one to be trained by uncle (daddy) Luke? Even though she's too old and blah blah blah? Or kylo is the chosen one who's fallen and his redemption or destruction will bring balance? And that makes anakin the TRUE chosen one cuz he fathered it all? That's exhausting!

And why does it NEED balanced? And who decides when it is? JEEEZZZZZ!!!!!

Thanks for reading, I'll return the soap box to the laundry now...

Who knows at this point. In Episode I, Yoda tells Obi-wan, "The Chosen One the boy may be." In Episode III, when discussing Anakin as the Chosen One and the prophecy surrounding the Chosen One, Yoda tells Mace and Obi-Wan, "A prophecy misread could have been."

There are many avenues JJ & Co. can take the Prophecy of the Chosen One if they decided to venture down that rabbit hole.

I agree with that. There was never any mention of any kind of prophesy in OT; Luke was the only hope because he was the last Jedi (and well, Darth Vader's son). GL only brought it up in PT, and I thought it was really a weak plot concept from the start. If Force is this all encompassing living thing, it simply is what it is. Constantly. Permanently. There is no need to balancing it. I think that was also the attraction of the original Force to many fans, because it introduced this omnipotence presence, a religion almost, that alluded to Buddhism and other oriental mythologies/philosophies.

Saying this, well, the movie is GL's brain child, so he pretty much is allowed to do what he wants with his creation. Yet, I would hope, really hope, that there are no prophesies attached to this trilogy...
